From the rooftops shout it out :: VOTD

Ready to Go :: Republica
from the album, Republica

Ready to Go is a song by Republica, released as a single on April 15, 1996.

The original recording was not included on the band’s debut album, Republica – two other versions of the song, the U.S. mix and the original mix, were included. This version was later featured on a greatest hits collection, Ready to Go: The Best Of.

The single originally reached # 43 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1996. It was re-released in February 1997, whereupon it reached # 13. Tomcraft released another version of the song in 2007. Yet another version of the song was released on June 7, 2010, and reached # 1 on the UK Upfront Club chart.

There were two music videos created for the song, the first (UK/Europe version) featured lead singer Saffron jumping on the roof of a building. The shots took place somewhere in East London. This video is very sunny and upbeat. It is said that it shows the hidden beauty of East London. The video also features lead singer Saffron playing the video game Virtual Fighter 2.

The other version (U.S. version, see above) is very different from the original British one. Saffron is shown jumping on a green field near a road, then she is dancing and doing humorous mimics in front of the camera. Some parts of the video are artificially colorized.

The song has been used in numerous television, film and sports events.

    1. I felt the SAME way EXACTLY. I went to YouTube and clicked on “recommended” and this song came on. As much as I’ve heard the song a ton, I don’t know that I ever saw the video before – I’m digging her hair and dress!

      1. I’m not even sick of the song really but it got to a point where it became a separate thing from Republica. I need to google them and just see what’s what. I can’t remember any other songs by them, are there “others”?
        The hair too, yes & the makeup…the whole thing!

      2. Even the tee shirt in the quick clips of her in another outfit I like…but then again, I think I miss 90’s fashion a bit too much 🙂

        You know, I think I had the CD when it first came out, but I honestly don’t remember other songs…I may need to look into that, too.
