Zola Jesus :: Now Hear This

now-hear-thisZola Jesus

Nika Roza Danilova better known by her stage name Zola Jesus, is an American singer-songwriter. She has released three EPs and three full-length albums, as well as a new album, Taiga, ready to release on October 7 on Mute Records. I cannot wait to hear the new album, especially since David Lynch is one of the co-producers on the album, as well as Sparklehorse.

Her music combine electronic, industrial, classical, goth, and experimental rock influences. Go (Blank Sea) is currently on my heavy rotation list, especially when driving home from work in that almost sunset time of day.

Nika’s musical sensibilities pay homage to her adolescent favorites, The Swans, Diamanda Galas and Lydia Lunch. She takes these influences and infuses them with the pop-alternative-indie-dance electronica that is filling dance floors and radio “heavy rotation” slots as well. I hear a little Bat For Lashes, a little Sia and some Banks  in her music, and I’d love to hear her do a duet with Perfume Genius.

Zola Jesus’ music fits right into this “year of amazing female artists“, and I look forward to hearing the album in its entirety next week.

Released today is the next single from the album, Dangerous Days, another catchy and electronically rich release that will most likely make it to my heavy rotation playlist, as well.
