This week’s Top Ten is color themed. My favorite color. Blue. My favorite “blue” songs. I wasn’t sure I could come up with ten. What was I thinking? I can always come up with so much more than ten. Then the tough part comes, having to trim down my favorites to ten. It’s never an easy thing, cutting songs, but I did it – coming up with my favorite ten. At least for today.

Songs In Blue
My Top Ten
May 5, 2021
Blue Song 1: “Bluebeard” by Cocteau Twins
“Are you the right man for me?
Are you safe? Are you my friend?
Are you the right man for me?
Are you safe? Are you my friend?”
Blue Song 2: “Screenwriter Blues” by Soul Coughing
“You are going,
to Reseda,
to make love,
to a model,
from Ohio,
whose real name,
you don’t know.”
Blue Song 3: “Famous Blue Raincoat” by Leonard Cohen
“Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older,
your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder.
You’d been to the station to meet every train,
and you came home without Lili Marlene.
And, you treated my woman to a flake of your life.
And, when she came back she was nobody’s wife.”
Blue Song 4: “Tangled Up In Blue” (Take 3. Remake 2) by Bob Dylan
“She was married when we first met.
Soon to be divorced.
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
but I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could.
Abandoned it out west.
Split up on a dark, sad night,
both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me,
as I was walking away.
I heard her say over my shoulder,
“we’ll meet again someday on the avenue”
Tangled up in blue.”
Blue Song 5: “Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra”
“Hey there Mr. Blue,
we’re so pleased to be with you.
Look around see what you do,
everybody smiles at you.”
Blue Song 6: “Blue Jean” by David Bowie
“Oh, Blue Jean.
Is heaven any sweeter than Blue Jean?
She got a police bike.
She got a turned up nose.”
Blue Song 7: “Blue Monday” by New Order
“And, I still find it so hard,
to say what I need to say.
But I’m quite sure that you’ll tell me,
just how I should feel today.”
Blue Song 8: “Blue Light” by Mazzy Star
“There’s a blue light,
in my best friend’s room.
There’s a blue light,
in his eyes.
There’s a blue light, yeah,
I want to see it shine.”
Blue Song 9: “Blue” by Joni Mitchell
“Blue.
Songs are like tattoos.”
Blue Song 10: “Pale Blue Eyes” by The Velvet Underground
“If I could make the world as pure,
and strange as what I see,
I’d put you in the mirror,
I put in front of me.
I put in front of me.
Linger on your pale blue eyes.”
