My Weekly Top 10 :: Week of 3/31

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier   Steve/Captain America Up until now, the Thor movies have been my favorite of the Marvel franchise, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier may just have changed that. There were so many moments I loved in this one, so many characters that I not only felt myself attaching to, but rooting for them, too. I loved seeing so much of Natasha in this film, her strength and heroics and humanity, the friendship between she and Steve (THANK YOU for having these two have a FRIENDSHIP, and not a predictable love story), Sam/The Falcon and his … Continue reading My Weekly Top 10 :: Week of 3/31

I’ll take the long way ’round :: As Heard on Television

“And, you’ll find loss, and you’ll fear what you found, when weather comes, tearing down. There’ll be oats in the water. There’ll be birds on the ground. There’ll be things you never asked her, oh, how they tear at you now.” Unlike many television shows, The Walking Dead uses non-score music sparingly, holding out for those moments that are wordless, where a song at that moment works in a way that leaves you shaking, and often, emotionally gutted. Their use of music is stunning, moving, and never wasted. This past season it was Ben Howard’s Oats In the Water that … Continue reading I’ll take the long way ’round :: As Heard on Television

My Weekly Top 10 :: Week of November 18

1. Catching Fire My expectations were low, even though I enjoyed the first film (despite a few issues), and loved the first book. This movie took me by surprise, took the wind out of me, had me in tears, had me jumping out of my seat, had me laughing, and had me cheering and clapping, and feeling very impatient for the next film. This is one of the best sequels I have ever seen (as one reviewer described, Catching Fire is this era’s Empire Strikes Back). 2. Say Something :: A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera This came on … Continue reading My Weekly Top 10 :: Week of November 18

My Weekly Top Ten :: The Week of October 21

1. Books and Nachos Podcast I have a significantly long commute to and from work in which I combat the horror of Los Angeles freeway traffic with playlists, audio books, and my new addition/addiction, podcasts. I am new to the podcast world, or at least to the auditory enjoyment of them (I have known of them being around for quite awhile) and am on the look out for good ones (please share your recommendations in the comments). I recently discovered “Books & Nachos”, and enjoyed two of their installments on my way home tonight – one on the Stephen King … Continue reading My Weekly Top Ten :: The Week of October 21

My Weekly Top Ten :: The Week of October 14

My Top Ten :: Week of 10/14/13 1. Dreamland Social Club by Tara Altebrando I am not a “judge a book by it’s cover” kind of girl, but when I was at the library last weekend I stumbled upon this book and was taken completely by the cover, and ended up checking it out without knowing a thing about it. The words inside, thus far (I’m about halfway through), have lived up to the cover. I am a sucker for stories about amusement parks and real life fantastical mysteries, as well as a fan of both YA novels and stories … Continue reading My Weekly Top Ten :: The Week of October 14
