My Top 300 Movies :: 191-195

191. Joe vs. the Volcano A journey of self-discovery taken when the worst is expected, when the clanging chimes of mortality are ringing in the distance, or when the mundane and the miserable are just too much to take anymore, whatever fuels it, that rebellious, brave and maybe crazy desire to just go and really live is powerful. Joe experiences it in this surreal story that completely captured me the first time I saw it. This is a movie full of wit, romance, adventure and the magic that plays in our minds in those quiet moments when we allow it. “Joe … Continue reading My Top 300 Movies :: 191-195

121. The Family Stone  Dysfunctional family holiday stories are definitely something I can relate to, and have a soft spot for. I am also a huge fan of the ensemble cast film when it is done right, which here, with The Family Stone, it is done right. My heart always goes out to Meredith (Sarah Jessica Parker) who comes into the family as an outsider, notably different than the rest of the family, and who is basically abandoned by her fiance, whose family this is, in the first place. I’ve been there, in her shoes, though I never did have … Continue reading My Top 300 Movies :: 121-125

111. Purple Rain Music movies are a top favorite of mine, and this one is over-the-top in some of the elements I love – unforgettable songs, emotional moments that involve music, stunning musical numbers, and a love story. Sure, this film is dated, and the characters feel less likable than I remember, still there is something I still love here, and the soundtrack is still amazing. Watching it now still brings back memories of that first time I saw it in the theaters. Trailer I Would Die 4 U :: Prince & the Revolution 112. Hans Christian Andersen A comfort movie from … Continue reading My Top 300 Movies :: 111-115

106. Roman Holiday A dreamy travel tale that I have loved since I was a little girl. Such iconic scenes and style, they have stuck with me, never losing their impact, and ever fueling my gypsy soul. I fell in love with both Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in this film. Movie Clip :: “Take a Holiday“ Roman Holiday (Main Title) :: George Auric 107. Tonight You’re Mine (aka You Instead) The closest you could be to a music festival without actually being at a music festival, this movie honestly makes you feel like you are there among these characters, watching their experiences unfold. … Continue reading My Top 300 Movies :: 106-110

101. Donnie Darko This is one of those movies that impact me more each time I re-watch it. The mood, music, style, feel and tone of the film, the cinematics of it all, move me as much, if not at times more, than the actual story. There is such loneliness in the film, desperation, and love (and now I am wanting another re-watch). Movie Clip The Killing Moon :: Echo & The Bunnymen Head Over Heels :: Tears For Fears Notorious :: Duran Duran Mad World :: Gary Jules 102. Beetlejuice I love a good haunted house story, I also love dark … Continue reading My Top 300 Movies :: 101-105

91. Catch and Release This is not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, it is full of flaws and at times derivative plot twists, but I love the characters and their stories, regardless. Maybe its the cast, filled with so many favorites of mine (Jennifer Garner, Kevin Smith, Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis), or maybe it just hits a soft spot of mine – families made of choice and circumstance that are not your “family”. No matter what the reason, it is one of my forever go-to “comfort” movies. Trailer First kiss Razor :: Foo Fighters Pills :: Gary … Continue reading My Top 300 Movies :: 91-95

71. Into the Wild  One of the most inspiring, heartbreaking and beautiful movies I have ever seen. It speaks to my gypsy soul, my wandering side, and the part of me that keeps thinking there is so much of life I want to experience. Packed with amazing performances and breathtaking views, and so much emotion – an amazing film. Chris and Tracy Guaranteed :: Eddie Vedder Ride :: Eddie Vedder 72. The Runaways When I was a teenage girl I had a fleeting wish to be in an all-girl rock band, something like a cross-between the Runaways and the Bangles, with … Continue reading My Top 300 :: 71-75

61. The Wrestler One of the most heartbreaking films I have ever seen, and one I am not sure I could ever sit through again, even though I loved it. Phenomenal performance by Mickey Rourke, a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember, as well as from another favorite of mine, Marisa Tomei. This film was so raw, so vulnerable; it made my heart hurt. The Boardwalk scene The Wrestler :: Bruce Springsteen 62. Lost In Translation Trying to articulate the reasons and whys of my love for this movie always trips me up and has me uncharacteristically … Continue reading My Top 300 :: 61-65
