My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/27/17

What Music is playing on My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day today? Its a Monday, the day so many dread, but with Music isn’t anything conquerable, bearable, and maybe even joyous? For this Monday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions we tune in to The Supremes’ covering my favorite Sam Cooke song. From there we hear from Saint Etienne with “You’re In a Bad Way”. I chose a track from Pulp’s His ‘N’ Hers album for number three, and then a third released track from Goldfrapp’s soon-to-be-here album. The five Music Obsessions for Monday wind up with a track from Morcheeba (pictured above), “Friction”, taken off their 1998 album, Big Calm. Quintessential Album Series :: Big Calm (1998) :: Morcheeba A Little History: Big Calm is the second album by Morcheeba. The album cover was inspired by that of the 1966 Ray Conniff compilation Hi Fi Companion. It was released at a time that “trip-hop” was considered on its way out. This album still contains trip-hop sounds and sensibilities, mixed in with a variety of other styles and genres, such as pop, lounge, reggae, jazz and electronica. Big Calm is the sea where so many musical styles swim together beautifully. Singer Skye Edwards’ voice is ethereal and enchanting, weaving beauty into every sound. “I left my soul there,  down by the Sea. I lost control here,  living free.” We used to drive down Pacific Coast Highway, windows rolled down, music on high, the ocean breeze weaving patterns within the blowing tendrils of our hair, creating a blend of blonde and brown.
