My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day for Friday start out with the song that was stuck in my head on waking this morning. I think it has been spinning around in my subconscious ever since I watched The Jam documentary this past Wednesday (About the Young Idea – check it out here). Next up, Music-wise, is Sleaford Mods’ “B.H.S.”, which gets stuck in my head at about the halfway mark of my daily commute, for some reason. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds brings it next, with my favorite track from his self-titled, bird-flying album. Pete Yorn comes around with “Crystal Village” next, a song and video he recently posted, explaining the inspiration for the brown suit in the video (i.e. Nic Cage in Valley Girl). Tones on Tail ends this My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day in honor of finding out today that they put more Poptone tickets on sale…can’t wait to see them in Las Vegas, in May.

Welcome Wednesday’s music for My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day, starting off with some Weller for Wednesday. From there Throttle takes over with a high intensity cover version of “Hit the Road Jack” (not sure what I enjoy more, this take on the song, or the video). The Go-Go’s flashback, and The Libertines warn about looking back into the sun. The five for today ends with some Small Faces, the song of the five that requires a turn-up-the-volume moment, so come on, turn it up.

Tuesday arrived quickly this week. The music plays while March flies by, faster than January and February seemed to. Perhaps this is something that happens when you are happy, feeling engaged in each moment, and satisfied with where you are right now. That isn’t a feeling I’ve had too often in my life, but I certainly have it now. I don’t take it for granted, no. I cherish it. Turn the music up, sing-a-long, and feel damn lucky to be alive, in this life, in my life, right now.

Today’s MY Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day start with my favorite track off of Blur’s most recent album, The Magic Whip. From there I hit play for a track off Wolf Alice’s EP with the same title – “Blush” quite possibly being my favorite track of Wolf Alice (see pictured above). Arctic Monkeys’ “505”, tied for favorite with a “Mardy Bum”, comes in at song number 3, then there is a newly discovered track from The Courteeners. We finish up today’s 5 with Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, a song I referenced in a conversation I was having with my carpool early this morning.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day’s music begins with a mellow track by Fionn Regen, a newer discovery of mind, both artist and song. The mellow-Monday-mood continues with one of my favorite tracks by M. Ward (pictured above), which I believe was the first track I ever heard from him, back in 2006. “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl” is up next, a song that I used to throw on when I worked at Tower Records, in Chicago, and much like that quintessential scene in the movie High Fidelity, it would always sell before the second verse began. Stripped down piano version to Sia’s “Chandelier” is up next, keeping with this Monday’s mood. Tying it all together is my favorite Stereophonics track, one that always makes me want to drive to the ocean, windows down, cares blowing away, with the volume turned up.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day’s music starts off with a remastered version of one of my all-time favorite songs by Elliott Smith, available now on the new released Either/Or: Expanded Edition. Next up is one of my all-time favorite songs from Ian McCulloch’s solo from the Bunnymen projects. Goldfrapp’s new single “Ocean” swims beautifuly into Doves’ “Meet Me at the Pier”. And, it all ends (or begins, if you hit replay this week’s playlist full of musical obsessions) with my favorite track off of Laura Marling’s new release, Semper Femina (reviewed here).

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day’s music begins with Doves, a band I dove into yesterday after my fellow music obsessive boyfriend sent me one of their songs. Next up is Finley Quaye with William Orbit (and Beth Orton on backing vocals) which leads into another music introduction sent to me yesterday by said boyfriend, a bit psychedelic rock to swirl around to, with Max Pain and the Groovies. “Lost Weekend” comes next from one of lyriquediscorde’s frequently featured singer-songwriters, and then it all becomes five with some solo Graham Coxon.

Wednesday’s a favorite day of the week. The day is already beautiful outside, clear skies, sun bright, slight breeze making its presence known. Sleep eludes some nights, but last night she came with kindness, and hazy dreams. I woke with music in my head and started to contemplate already what would make My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day begins with a beautiful song about finality and expectation. It leads into a new discovery song from Turin Breaks which I’ve been listening to, off-and-on, the last two days. Next is Gene Clark. I’d originally wanted the Paul Weller/Death In Vegas cover, but it doesn’t seem to be available via Spotify. Camera Obscura and Spoon make it five, and it is all ready to hit play, and turn the volume up.

Tuesday. Mid-morning. The sun beating through third floor office windows. I’d really rather be near the water today, or on the road to somewhere, anywhere. It feels like a road trip kind of day. But it’s not. No, it’s more To-Do lists and projects to complete. So, let’s turn up the music and make our weave our way through My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day starts with some Interpol, which seamless makes its way into Car Seat Headrest, and on into “Last Nite”, with The Strokes. Angel Olsen stops us with guitar licks and demands for silence, and kisses. It all ends with a Grizzly Bear’s song I hadn’t heard in ages.
