My Top 300 :: 61-65

61. The Wrestler One of the most heartbreaking films I have ever seen, and one I am not sure I could ever sit through again, even though I loved it. Phenomenal performance by Mickey Rourke, a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember, as well as from another favorite of mine, Marisa Tomei. This film was so raw, so vulnerable; it made my heart hurt. The Boardwalk scene The Wrestler :: Bruce Springsteen 62. Lost In Translation Trying to articulate the reasons and whys of my love for this movie always trips me up and has me uncharacteristically … Continue reading My Top 300 :: 61-65

You know there’s nothing more than this :: Soundtrack Shout Out Wednesday

Lost In Translation :: Soundtrack Shout Out In my forever top-five favorite movie list is Sofia Coppola’s amazing film, Lost In Translation. Everything about this film gets itself inside of me, delights me, makes me think, feel, open up, and usually cry some, as well. For me, the film is about loneliness, change, companionship, connection, and the unexpected love we find in people. It is about the conflict and confusion we all feel as we struggle to be true to who we are, still feeling that we are “growing-up” even when our age, would suggest that we are “grown-up” (we … Continue reading You know there’s nothing more than this :: Soundtrack Shout Out Wednesday

More Than This :: Roxy Music featuring scenes from the film, Lost in Translation One of my favorite films paired up with one of my favorite songs, the visuals and the music mixing just perfectly. The unexpected connecting of two people that defies logic and timing and reality, but is still more than anything else, more than words, more than this. I am sharing two videos today because one really needs to be with the other. Bob Harris (played by Bill Murray) sings More Than This, to Charlotte (played by Scarlett Johansson). There is a moment when they look at … Continue reading You know there’s nothing more than this :: video of the day

Lost in Translation (2003) “The more you know who you are, and what you want, the less you let things upset you.” ~ Bob Harris Sometimes I need time with Charlotte and Bob, they inspire me and make me feel less crazy and broken, and more understood. There is comfort in fictional characters you relate to, and sometimes I need that kind of soothing. This is probably my favorite moment of the film – this conversation. I also love this ending, featuring Just Like Honey by The Jesus and Mary Chain. Continue reading Keep writing :: video of the day

Do you miss me?

“To vanish into oblivion, is easy to do. And, I try to be, but you know me, I come back when you want me to.” There are moments in a life that stick with us for just that – life. They imprint hours and ideas and visual cues on our skin and we go on living, forever carrying the haze and the tint of those memories. When one of those moments is shared with someone else, the someone else who becomes part of those memories we carry, the memory of them in the memory itself becomes a sense of missing, … Continue reading Do you miss me?

30 Day Challenge :: Angels fall like rain

30-Day Song Challenge :: Day 28 :: A Song That Makes You Feel Guilty Not so much guilty, as regretful, I suppose. It is a song that reminds me of a lost chance and a poor choice, a misstep and a missed opportunity, the proverbial “one that got away” that is so often a plot device, or stereotype, but no matter, when it happens to you it can hurt like hell. The memory, and the “could have been”, it is like a ghost that lives within you for always. The memory never fades away, no matter how I have let … Continue reading 30 Day Challenge :: Angels fall like rain

Angels fall like rain

“A race is on, I’m on your side, and hearing you my engines die. I’m in a mood for you, for running away. Stars come down in you, and love… you can’t give it away.” The Ghost in You :: The Psychedelic Furs “I don’t want to leave.” ~ Bob “So don’t. Stay here with me. We’ll start a jazz band.” ~ Charlotte It comes on unexpected, like the faded memories of a near completed dream. You wake up and rub your eyes, try to recapture what has just transpired in that subconscious film of sleep. You remember what you … Continue reading Angels fall like rain
