My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/17/17
Listen here at Spotify
My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day for Friday start out with the song that was stuck in my head on waking this morning. I think it has been spinning around in my subconscious ever since I watched The Jam documentary this past Wednesday (About the Young Idea – check it out here). Next up, Music-wise, is Sleaford Mods’ “B.H.S.”, which gets stuck in my head at about the halfway mark of my daily commute, for some reason. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds brings it next, with my favorite track from his self-titled, bird-flying album. Pete Yorn comes around with “Crystal Village” next, a song and video he recently posted, explaining the inspiration for the brown suit in the video (i.e. Nic Cage in Valley Girl). Tones on Tail ends this My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day in honor of finding out today that they put more Poptone tickets on sale…can’t wait to see them in Las Vegas, in May.
You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to the playlist each day, so the playlist evolves as the week does.
My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day:
1. “The Eton Rifles” :: The Jam
“Thought you were clever when you lit the fuse.
Tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes.
Compose a revolutionary symphony,
then went to bed with a charming young thing.”
Eton, in the “Eton Rifles”, refers to England’s elite college, Eton, in this class warfare anthem. As I mentioned before, this song was stuck in my head when I woke up today, as well as going in and out of my consciousness ever since watching The Jam documentary this past Wednesday. I do wish I had a time machine to go back in time to see live Music that I’ve missed – like a Jam show – yes, please.
2. “B.H.S.” :: Sleaford Mods
“It’s at night when they come,
when I’m alone,
and not with anyone.
Through the shouts and music,
of the crowd down the road boozing,
near the free car park,
the bins and the alleyway,
of the Chinese restaurant:
number 3 for 2,
and number 4 for 1.”
I can’t wait to see Sleaford Mods play next month. I’m so ready.
Also, turn this one up loud.
3. “If I had a Gun…” :: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
“Excuse me if I spoke too soon,
my eyes have always followed you around the room.
‘Cause you’re the only god that I will ever need.”
I love this song. It definitely holds a permanent place in my all-time favorite songs list. It holds a lot of new meaning to me now. One of my favorite love songs…yes.
4. “Crystal Village” :: Pete Yorn
“You were there,
and it was good in the beginning.”
Another song that will live in my all-time favorite songs list permanently. Another song that will always be very special to me.
5. “Go!” :: Tones On Tail
“Living it up.
It’s a big kick.
It’s good for you..”
Turn this one way up loud, too. This song makes me want to dance so badly. I remember so many nights dancing to it, smoky dark clubs, the vibration of the music ricocheting off the walls. I could feel this song beat in the center of my chest.
I can’t wait to see them in May.
