My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/17/17

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day for Friday start out with the song that was stuck in my head on waking this morning. I think it has been spinning around in my subconscious ever since I watched The Jam documentary this past Wednesday (About the Young Idea – check it out here). Next up, Music-wise, is Sleaford Mods’ “B.H.S.”, which gets stuck in my head at about the halfway mark of my daily commute, for some reason. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds brings it next, with my favorite track from his self-titled, bird-flying album. Pete Yorn comes around with “Crystal Village” next, a song and video he recently posted, explaining the inspiration for the brown suit in the video (i.e. Nic Cage in Valley Girl). Tones on Tail ends this My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day in honor of finding out today that they put more Poptone tickets on sale…can’t wait to see them in Las Vegas, in May.

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/16/17

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day for Thursday meet at the crossroads of dance and chill, infusing “Friday Eve” with an eclectic energy of Music to help get us through the day. It starts out with a new track off of the anticipated new album from Goldfrapp. From there we here some Chemical Brothers, who enlisted some help from Beck. Flunk comes around to spin this mix of Top 5 Songs around. Daughter grasps hands with M83 to take us into a breathing space, easing our minds and soothing us into the flow of another busy day. Turn these two up loud though. Just because they are melodic and mellow, does not mean they do not benefit from some booming sounds.

Welcome Wednesday’s music for My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day, starting off with some Weller for Wednesday. From there Throttle takes over with a high intensity cover version of “Hit the Road Jack” (not sure what I enjoy more, this take on the song, or the video). The Go-Go’s flashback, and The Libertines warn about looking back into the sun. The five for today ends with some Small Faces, the song of the five that requires a turn-up-the-volume moment, so come on, turn it up.

Tuesday arrived quickly this week. The music plays while March flies by, faster than January and February seemed to. Perhaps this is something that happens when you are happy, feeling engaged in each moment, and satisfied with where you are right now. That isn’t a feeling I’ve had too often in my life, but I certainly have it now. I don’t take it for granted, no. I cherish it. Turn the music up, sing-a-long, and feel damn lucky to be alive, in this life, in my life, right now.

Today’s MY Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day start with my favorite track off of Blur’s most recent album, The Magic Whip. From there I hit play for a track off Wolf Alice’s EP with the same title – “Blush” quite possibly being my favorite track of Wolf Alice (see pictured above). Arctic Monkeys’ “505”, tied for favorite with a “Mardy Bum”, comes in at song number 3, then there is a newly discovered track from The Courteeners. We finish up today’s 5 with Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, a song I referenced in a conversation I was having with my carpool early this morning.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day’s music begins with a mellow track by Fionn Regen, a newer discovery of mind, both artist and song. The mellow-Monday-mood continues with one of my favorite tracks by M. Ward (pictured above), which I believe was the first track I ever heard from him, back in 2006. “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl” is up next, a song that I used to throw on when I worked at Tower Records, in Chicago, and much like that quintessential scene in the movie High Fidelity, it would always sell before the second verse began. Stripped down piano version to Sia’s “Chandelier” is up next, keeping with this Monday’s mood. Tying it all together is my favorite Stereophonics track, one that always makes me want to drive to the ocean, windows down, cares blowing away, with the volume turned up.
