Bringing back the weekly top tens with “My Top Ten Shoe Songs”. There are way more shoe (and boot) songs then I first thought of. This list was surprisingly hard to trim and curate. For today, these are my top ten favorite shoe (and boot) songs.
Put your favorite shoes on, press play, and let’s dance…
Shoe (and Boot) Songs – My Top Ten
Song 1 – “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie
“Let’s dance.
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.
Let’s dance.
To the song they’re playin’ on the radio.”
Song 2 – “These Boots Are Made For Walkin'” by Nancy Sinatra
“Are you ready boots?
Start walkin’.”
Song 3 – “Goody Two Shoes” by Adam Ant
“Don’t drink, don’t smoke, what do you do?
Don’t drink, don’t smoke, what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow.
There must be something inside.”
Song 4 – “Walking In My Shoes” by Depeche Mode
“Now I’m not looking for absolution,
forgiveness for the things I do.
But, before you come to any conclusions,
try walking in my shoes.”
Song 5 – “The Red Shoes” by Kate Bush
“Oh, the minute I put them on,
I knew,
I had done somethin’ wrong.
All her gifts for the dance had gone.
It’s the red shoes,
they can’t stop dancin’,
dancin’.”
Song 6 – “Boogie Shoes” by KC and the Sunshine Band
“I want to put on my my my my my,
boogie shoes,
just to boogie with you, yeah.”
Song 7 – “New Shoes” by Paulo Nutini
“Oh, short on money but long on time.
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine.
And I’m running late and I don’t need an excuse.
‘Cause I’m wearing my brand new shoes.”
Song 8 – “About Damn Time” by Lizzo
“In a minute I’ma need a sentimental,
man or woman to pump me up.
Feeling fussy, walkin’ in my Balenci-ussy’s,
tryna bring out the fabulous.
‘Cause I give a fuck way too much.
I’ma need like two shots in my cup,
Wanna get up, wanna get down.
Mm, that’s how I feel right now.”
Song 9 – “Fire In Your Shoes” by Kaskade and Dragonette
“While I light a fire in your new shoes.
If you should smile, look so surprised.
While I light a fire in your new shoes.
Look out that your soles don’t burn to the floor.”
Song 10 – “Everytime Boots” by Julia Holter
“Oh, every time I do put on boots.
I feel the charge like I’ve a good thing to run to.
But I only hear the rattlesnake winds.
They blow dust and I’m helpless to fight back.”
