Glimpsing New Year Light

In the history of me, at least the histories I can recall, I’ve felt an overwhelming delight and lightning strike charge of motivation when the start of a new year arrives. I try sometimes to readjust my feelings, quell the dopamine rush, set myself to a more realistic state of mind, but it never works. My insides always start to dance, my checklists and wish lists and plans take center stage, singing their loudest, painting the sky and the walls and the floor. I find myself surrounded, enveloped, spinning around in imagined glitter and countdown kisses meant to melt the past year into nothing but memories.

This year, I’m not fighting it. No. This year I’m diving right in. I’m going to swim in the sticky sweet candy floss, the raining rainbow rainstorm of glitter and glam, swallowing up every start-again-new that I can. Why not. We only get to pirouette, spin, and bow for a short spell of what we call our life. This year, I’m going to be okay with being unabashed, unrealistic, overly emotional, unfiltered me – maybe you’ll decide to come along and just be, too. Happy 2022.
