It’s Friday! I’m wishing I was going to a concert tonight.
I miss live music so much.
So, for today’s five, in the spirit of my missing, it is an All Live Music Give Me Five Friday.
Give Me Five – April 2, 2021
Listen (and follow along for April’s GM5) on Spotify and YouTube
Song 1: “Crystal Village” (live from the Troubadour) by Pete Yorn
“Take my hand,
it was good in the beginning.”
So many memories.
I remember this show.
One of my all-time favorite Pete-songs. So many feelings attached to this song, so many memories. I feel it in my bones.
I’m ever so grateful for Pete’s music. For live music. For music.

If you go to Bandcamp to buy it TODAY (April 2, 2021), Bandcamp is waiving their revenue share on all sales from midnight-to-midnight (Pacific Time) – which means ALL profits go to the artist/go to Pete.

Song 2: “Jesus, Etc.” (live) by Wilco

“Don’t cry.
You can rely on me, honey.
You can come by any time you want.”
One of my favorite Wilco songs.
I never got to see them live. Hopefully someday in the future.
They always remind me of Chicago.

Song 3: “Precious Things” (live) by Tori Amos
“He said you’re really an ugly girl,
but I like the way you play –
and I died,
But, I thanked him.
Can you believe?
That sick.
Holding on to his picture,
dressing up every day.
I want to smash the faces,
of those beautiful boys,
those Christian boys.
So you can make me come,
that doesn’t make you Jesus.”
This song.
This song live.
I’m so glad I’ve gotten to see Tori perform this song live. Many times.
“Precious Things” is so cathartic live. The song itself has always been so cathartic, to me. So relatable and raw, and everything.
I feel this song, deeper and deeper, each time I hear it.

Song 4: “Plainsong” (live) by The Cure
“Sometimes you make me feel,
like I’m living at the edge of the world.
Like I’m living at the edge of the world.
‘It’s just the way I smile, ‘ you said.”
I would have LOVED to be at this show.
A favorite song from my favorite Cure album.
I’ve only seen them live once, at Coachella. It was glorious.
I hope I get to see them live again.
This song – this live version – gives me good music chill feelings. So many feelings.

Song 5: “Ordinary World” (live) by Duran Duran
“But I won’t cry for yesterday,
there’s an ordinary world,
somehow I have to find.
And, as I try to make my way,
to the ordinary world,
I will learn to survive.”
My first love band. “My boys”, forever and always.
This song has been speaking (or singing) to me a lot lately.
