Top 5 Music Obsessions featuring Sorry

One of the things I admire in myself is that I’ve never given up on music. I don’t mean music in general. I mean that I’ve never hunkered down in my youthful music preferences and declared there is no good music any longer. On the contrary, I have an insatiable hunger for new music. I want more, and I derive a hefty amount of pleasure in the hunting and gathering of new music. My ears are always open for new songs, and sounds.

Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions starts off with something new. One of my bands to watch of the year, Sorry’s track “Right Round the Clock” is a definite song-obsession of mine. I can’t stop hitting repeat. Keep a listen for a lyric that might remind you of Tears For Fears’ “Mad World”.

Next up is another new-to-me song. Mattiel’s “Keep the Change” showed up on my weekly Spotify Discovery Playlist. After one listen I immediately saved the song in my Top 5 Music Obsessions file, and also have it sitting and waiting for my next curated Playlist.

And now for a few not-so-new-to-me songs. I like to mix old with new, known with the newly discovered. I like the way songs hang together and mix. It is the magic of a mixtape or Playlist. In some ways, it’s like being a musical chef, pairing different flavors together, making something delicious to listen to.

Song three is Charlotte Gainsbourg’s “The Operation” from her album 555. I love Charlotte and her songs. Then its a track from one of my favorite artists of all-time, Stevie Nicks. “Wild Heart” takes me right back to the early ’80s, and endless music listened to in my poster-covered teenage bedroom. And last, but never least, is my favorite David Bowie song. “Heroes” is incredibly special to me. The song is overflowing with memories and meaning. I will never not want to hear it play.
