I’m in bad shape today and am not sure how to deal with it at all. Writing isn’t helping, so I’ll just put music up. I wish I could go back to Sunday night, and yesterday and all the things I believed were true.
Top 5 Music Obsessions – Tuesday, September 11, 2018
Listen via Spotify and YouTube
1. “Ventura” by Lucinda Williams
from the album, World Without Tears (2003)
“I wanna watch the ocean bend,
the edges of the sun then,
I wanna get swallowed up in,
an ocean of love.”
I wish I could go back to just a day, or two ago. It seems very far from me now.
2. “You Said Something” by Polly Jean Harvey
from the album, Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea (2000)
“How did we get here?
To this point of living?
I held my breath,
and you said something.”
There were things said that I can’t sort out. I want to go back and redo everything, and not end up where we did. I hate the doubt I put into myself, and all the things I handled wrong. I’ve not felt this bad in years, and it is all on me.
3. “Little Earthquakes” by Tori Amos
from the album, Little Earthquakes (1992)
“And I hate,
and I hate,
elevator music,
the way we fight,
the way I’m left here silent.”
4. “You Could Make a Killing” by Aimee Mann
from the album, I’m With Stupid (1995)
“There is nothing that competes with habit.
And, I know it’s neither deep nor tragic.
It’s simply that you have to have it.”
Still my favorite Aimee Mann song.
5. “Going, Going, Gone” by Bob Dylan
from the album, Planet Waves (1974)
“Grandma said, ‘Boy, go and follow your heart,
and you’ll be fine at the end of the line,
all that’s gold isn’t meant to shine,
Don’t you and your one true love ever part.'”
