Top 5 Music Obsessions featuring Chris Bell

Though I wasn’t ready for Monday, or all the trappings of a Monday, and almost called in “not-sick”, I’m feeling really good this Monday. A good weekend, and a wonderful night last night, are all part of how I feel today. I’m feeling very happy, motivated, and hopeful today – a good way to start the week, and a good way to face a Monday.

I slept well, though I could have used a few more hours. I’m on my second cup of coffee while working on preliminary Monday reports and listening to today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions, while I feel rather swoony about Chris, and us, and love. I think this is going to be a good week. I can feel it.

Have we found some solutions to the difficulties we’ve had lately? I’m not sure. I know we have some tricks to try, some plans we’ve agreed on. But, bigger than that I think we’ve had some nights of connection, and even some connecting during the day, to hang on to, and learn from. I think the good times spent this weekend are both a reminder of who we are together, and motivation to keep working together towards that deep connection we have.

It helped to share music. To talk about it, as well as spend time not talking about it, and just lying close together, in each other’s arms, listening. It helped to watch football together. Something I never thought I’d enjoy. But watching together, asking questions, learning, and sharing the moments together, brought excitement, learning, and another level of connection. It reminded me some of going to see jazz together the first, and second time. Experiencing something new and learning from him, sharing in something that is special to him, and finding it special to me, too.

It was wonderful going to dinner together, too, and watching stuff. And spending time with my daughter and her boyfriend, the four of us laughing and bonding some together. That was special to me, too. And last night, falling asleep together. And before that, too, when I realized that I was experiencing a level of happiness I’ve never known before. Big stuff and little stuff and lots of connection, and us. It was a wonderful weekend.

Top 5 Music Obsessions – Monday, September 10, 2018

Listen via Spotify and YouTube

1. “Speed of Sound” by Chris Bell
from the album, I am the Cosmos (2017)

Chris Bell Speed of Sound Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 1

“I remember the first time,
you said you loved me.”

Though the next lines are not happy lines, the opening lyrics made me smile this morning remembering when we first started to tell each other “I love you.”

Hearing this song play this morning from the Spotify Discover Weekly also reminded me of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, the movie, that featured this song in the soundtrack. I’d like to rewatch it sometime. I’d like to watch it with Chris.

2. “Where Will I Be?” by Emmylou Harris
from the album, Wrecking Ball (1995)

Emmylou Harris Where Will I Be Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 2

“Yeah, I like the heat,
of your body laying under me.
May your wild lip get you where your going,
with your inventions your intentions,
your laughter.
Your forever yearning.”

Track one from my favorite Emmylou Harris album, Wrecking Ball, produced by Daniel Lanois. Listening to this song, and this album, this morning, is reminding me how much I love it. I may want to pick this album the next time we are listening to music together, and taking turns selecting albums to listen together to.

3. “From the Morning” by Nick Drake
from the album, Pink Moon (1972)

Nick Drake From the Morning Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 3

“And now we rise.
We are everywhere.”

This morning, all I could think about is us. I feel so much love in me, so much it feels like I could explode. I feel our love everywhere today.

4. “Valentine” by Bryan Ferry
from the album, Boys and Girls (1985)

Bryan Ferry Valentine Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 4

“Happiness,
hard to get,
Valentine in hand.
None of them will ever guess,
but you understand.”

This track, and the entire album it’s from (1985’s Boys and Girls), feels sexy. I listen to this song, on repeat, and replay making love together last night. It makes me beyond smile in memory, and miss him terribly. I’m not sure I will ever get enough of him, or of us. Ever.

5. “Razor Love” by Neil Young
from the album, Silver and Gold (2000)

Neil Young Razor Love Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 5

“You really made my day,
with the little things you say.”

As I continue to dig in deep and explore Neil Young’s music I find new favorite songs that I can’t get enough of. Today that song is “Razor Love.”
