Today has been a really good day. I’ve had one of those days where I’ve gotten so many things done. Work to-do list stuff, house stuff, and even set aside personal to-do’s that I’ve been putting off for months. I’m not sure what is motivating me today, but I’ll take it. I’m not comfortable with procrastination, but my anxiety sometimes fuels it. I’m grateful for days when I don’t feel anxiety’s influence on me.
Last night was a really good night. Sometimes it is so easy with us that I can’t believe how rough and challenging it can be other times. We are almost four months into our relationship and I feel like we still have so much to learn. But, we are committed and determined, and I’ve always been persistent. This is love, the forever kind, so I’m not giving up on us.
Planning something for our four months (next Saturday) feels great. I’m looking forward to seeing a music-related film and going to lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. I know that four months isn’t a notable date (not a half year, or year, or even one month in), but to me, I like to celebrate all our milestones, big and small. Celebrating our love, and finding each other, is important to me.
So, how about some Top 5 Music Obsessions music of the day?
Top 5 Music Obsessions – Thursday, September 6, 2018
Listen via Spotify and YouTube
1. “Something Changed” by Pulp
from the album, Different Class (1995)
“I wrote the song two hours before we met.
I didn’t know your name or what you looked like yet.
Oh, I could have stayed at home and gone to bed.
I could have gone to see a film instead.
You might have changed your mind and seen your friends.
Life could have been very different but then,
something changed.”
I didn’t write a song, but I did write, and still write, so much about you, and us. Meeting you definitely changed everything for me.
2. “The Present” by Moviestar, featuring Professor Elemental
from the single, “The Present” (2018)
“Time is relative anyways,
so get up and dance and sing and play,
together.”
Releases officially tomorrow. This is an addictive pop track with an edge. I’m digging it today. It fits right in with my unexpected, crazy productivity. It’s like musical Red Bull.
3. “Go Places” by The New Pornographers
from the album, Challengers (2007)
“Come head on,
full circle,
our arms fill with miracles.
Play hearts, kid,
they work well.
Like classics,
play aces
stay with me,
go places.
Once more for the ages.”
I want to have so many adventures with you. It’s exciting that in a way we’ve only just begun.
Also, this is my new favorite New Pornographers song, off of my all-time favorite album of theirs. I love Neko Case’s voice in this. So much.
4. “This Time Tomorrow” by The Kinks
from the album, Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One (1970)
“I don’t where I’m going.
I don’t want to see.
I feel the world below me looking up at me.”
The first song I heard this morning. Hearing it made me feel like it was going to be a good day.
5. “Beyond Belief” by Elvis Costello
from the album, Imperial Bedroom (1982)
“I might make it California’s fault,
be locked in Geneva’s deepest vault.
Just like the canals of Mars and the Great Barrier Reef,
I come to you beyond belief.”
The first track from the 1982 album, Imperial Bedroom. I’ve been re-visiting/digging into this Elvis Costello album recently. I’m really enjoying it. Somehow I never listened to it that much. Until now.
