Top 5 Music Obsessions featuring Polly Jean Harvey

Busy day full of research and planning, as well as some house hunting on the side. Music has been playing all day long. In the last hour, with my office door shut, I’ve turned up the volume. Something I don’t do too often, but today it seemed the best idea. Thanks to my lovely boyfriend, my week got much better. A good night sleep helped, too. I always sleep so much better next to him. Everything is better next to him.

These Top 5 Music Obsessions have been in heavy rotation, turned up to office-loud, most of my morning and afternoon. I think they sound great played together, as well.

1. “Dress” by Polly Jean Harvey

PJ Harvey Dress Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 1

“Dreamy, dreamy music,
make it be alright.
Music play,
make it good for romancing.
Must be a way I can dress to please him.
Swing and sway,
everything will be alright.
But it’s feeling so damn tight tonight.
If you put it on.
If you put it on.
If you put it on.
If you put it on.”

Polly Jean turned up loud is always recommended. She’s one of our singers. One of an infinite list.

2. “Dreaming” by Blondie

Blondie Dreaming Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 2

“Dreaming,
dreaming is free.
Dreaming,
dreaming is free.”

Its been far too long since I listened to Blondie. I remember that this was one of my first 45’s I bought on my own. Preteen me with babysitting and birthday money saved up, walking to Montgomery Ward department store, and heading straight to their music department. Debbie Harry was always one of my favorites.

3. “Straight to Hell” by The Clash

The Clash Straight To Hell Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 3

“If you can play on the fiddle,
how’s about a British jig and reel?
Speaking King’s English in quotation,
as railhead towns feel the steel mills rust.
Water froze,
in the generation,
clear as winter ice,
this is your paradise.”

We listened to this last night, too. Switching from Self-Titled to Combat Rock, both agreeing that we love this song. The lyrics are incredible, capturing the reality so vividly.

4. “Soft Shock” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Soft Shock Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 4

“Louder,
lips speak louder.
Better,
back together.
Still, it’s a shock,
shock to your soft side.
Summer moon.
Catch your shut eyes in my room.
In your room.
In my room.
In your room.”

Summer nights, hot air, cool sheets, lips speaking without words. I love our nights together.

5. “The Woods” by San Fermin

Soft Fermin The Woods Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 5

“I was a boy and I was good,
but there are witches in these woods.”

My oldest daughter surprised me with a playlist today. We used to make them for each other all the time, but its been years. I was really touched, and it is so good. She has great taste in music. This is the first track from her playlist for me that she called “There are Witches in these Woods”.
