Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions starts with the first song I heard this morning and weaves to-and-through songs that have been singing in my head all this morning and early afternoon. I can’t remember a time in my life when there wasn’t a running soundtrack in my head. And now, sharing time and life and love with someone who seems to have a lifelong inner soundtrack, as well, makes music even more magical. Sharing music is one of my favorite things about us. I believe it always will be.

1. “Nothing Else” by Angus and Julia Stone

“There’s nothing else to do here,

There’s nothing quite as powerful than loving someone for exactly who they are. I believe, too, there’s nothing quite as lasting.

2. “Emmylou” by First Aid Kit

“I’ll be your Emmylou,
and I’ll be your June,
if you’ll be my Gram,
and my Johnny, too.
No, I’m not asking much of you,
just sing little darling,
sing with me.”

All I’m asking is for love, patience, and music. And that is what I’m bringing along, too. Always.

Also, these girls’ voices and harmonies – oh my stars.

3. “A Strange Kind of Love” by Diane Birch and the Phenomenal Handclap Band

This is such a stunning cover of Peter Murphy’s “A Strange Kind of Love”. It hits beneath the skin and brings new meaning to the lyrics. To me.

Its so hard not to be afraid when in love, when feeling so vulnerable. To believe in the truth and the words, the feelings, the look in your eyes. But, I’m persistent. I keep pushing through the fear.

4. “This Is Where I Belong” by The Kinks

“I can’t think of a place I’d rather be.
The whole wide world doesn’t mean so much to me.
For this is where I belong.
This is where I belong.”

It started with a Kinks song. The first song sent to me, right at the start of it all. Seems like years in some ways, and just mere moments in other ways. This is definitely where I belong.

5. “My Conversation” by The Uniques

“All I need from you is a good conversation.

And to tell you I never felt this way before.”

We were conversation from the start. Music and conversation. And quickly it turned into love.
