Jayhawks Top 5 Music Obsessions

Top 5 Music Obsessions featuring The Jayhawks

I’m in a sleepy haze today, but not the kind from anxiety or insomnia, but the kind of staying up late with someone you love. Conversations that can make time speed by at an inconceivable rate are one of my favorite things, as are hours spent as fated lovers. The kind that is not starcrossed, but star-found. All of this is beyond words sometimes, and I’m still in a state of shock that this is happening. I’m in a state of bliss, too. And right now, on this Thursday afternoon, I’m in a state of sleepiness, too. Time to turn up the Top 5 Music Obsessions to keep me going, I’d say.

1. “All the Right Reasons” by The Jayhawks

The Jayhawks Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 1

“Like a tired bird flying high across the ocean,
I was outside looking in –
you made me live again.”

I’m still stunned. But, I’m not running from any of it. I’m embracing all of it and letting it change me, in all the right ways.

2. “Angel Dream (No. 2)” by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

“I dreamed you,
I saw your face,
caught my lifeline when drifting through space.
I saw an angel,
I saw my fate.
I can only thank God it was not too late.”

I’ve loved this song since I first saw the film She’s the One. The whole soundtrack I love, actually. I forgot about it for awhile. I used to have a CD of it back in 1996. Through the years I’ve lost it or sold it, or something. I remembered it this week and had to hear this song again. It hit right in everything that’s happening right now. I played it a few times in a row and then slipped it into an oversized playlist I made for us.

3. “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac Landslide Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 3

“Oh, mirror in the sky,
what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?”

One of my favorite songs since I was a child. I don’t think I understood the meaning of this song back then, but I have felt it more and more as I’ve gotten older. And it took quite a long time to get that answer from the mirror. I’m glad I finally did.

4. “The Wind” by Cat Stevens

“I listen to my words but,

they fall far below.
I let my music take me where my heart wants to go.”

A favorite of mine since I was a little girl, too. I love that he sent this one to me.

I’m trying to record our history. Our story. As much as I can. Music has played such an integral part. In the beginning, and still now, songs speak for us, or maybe we speak through it. Music, like our love, is big magic.

5. “Wait” by Alexi Murdoch

Alexi Murdoch Wait Top 5 Music Obsessions Song 5

“And if I stumble,
and if I stall,
and if I slip now,
and if I should fall,
and if I cant be all that I could be –
will you, will you wait for me .”

This one always makes me cry. Especially on days that I feel too broken for anyone to love.
