Tuesday afternoon sleepiness. The coffee isn’t enough today. But, its an okay kind of tired. Last night was wonderful. Today has been, too. I’m still all smiles from both. So, I’ll take the tired. It’s a fair trade. As work winds down I’m turning today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions up. Music always helps, even when coffee falters.
Top 5 Music Obsessions – June 19, 2018
Stream today’s Top 5 and the rest of the week as it unfolds, on Spotify and YouTube
1. “I’m Yours (Use Me Anyway You Wanna)” by Ike and Tina Turner
“With my hands locked behind me,
and my feet trying to find me,
I find ways to try to find you.
Just to get the chance to remind you,
that if you change your mind,
and don’t leave me behind,
I’ll be any way you want me.”
That music time machine that I’m still waiting for? I want to go back in it to see Ike and Tina perform so bad. I think I know someone who’d go with me.
2. “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green
“Let me say that since,
baby,
since we’ve been together,
loving you forever is what I need.”
Time machine destination, for sure. Also, I think this track needs to be added to the endless “our songs” list. Loving someone who loves music too is a beautiful thing.
3. “I Never Loved a Man (The Way That I Love You)” by Aretha Franklin
“I’m stuck like glue,
cause I ain’t never,
I ain’t never, I ain’t never,
no, no,
loved a man that way that I,
I love you.”
My favorite Aretha song. So damn good.
Hey, Time Machine, you’ve got quite a few steps ahead. Can we check-in for some 1967 Aretha?
4. “Something About What Happens When We Talk” by Lucinda Williams
5. “Shelter” by Lone Justice
“You’re unsure.
Well, baby, I’m scared, too.
When the world crushes you,
let me be you’re shelter.”
I’m feeling this song so deeply right now.
I LOVE Ike & Tina! They knew how to put on a show and shout out the the Ikettes! I prefer Tina’s music with Ike because she was more raw and had grit. Her later pop rock stuff is okay but it doesn’t have the same soul.
