I keep thinking about Ben Folds’ song “The Luckiest”. Its been a favorite of mine for years. I have always put it in the category of my idea of a perfect love song. There are lyrics that are heartbreakingly beautiful, and listening this morning they brought tears to my eyes. I didn’t see this coming. I never expected it. Wished, maybe. Dreamed. But never expected.
A moment could have changed it all completely. I could have missed this. “The Luckiest” luck that put us into each other’s lives is mind-blowing. I think he’s right. Its like we were pushed into each other. In a good way. Maybe the universe got tired of waiting for us to find each other ourselves. Whatever the reason, I’m grateful and lucky.

“The Luckiest” is the last track on Ben Folds’ 2001 album, Rockin’ the Suburbs – the first album I ever heard Ben on. Doesn’t it seem a fitting last track? There is a finality in it. The finding of the one you’ve always looked for, feeling that “finally” feeling, and acknowledging how thankful you are, how rare real love is, and how lucky you feel.
I know how lucky I feel.
