So hey, this week is pretty good. Wednesday, you are pretty good, too. I’m not going to question, or over-think it, I’m just going to take it as is. Bring on good weeks and good days. Oh, and today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions, of course.
Top 5 Music Obsessions – June 13, 2018
Listen on Spotify and YouTube – follow and listen along for the entire week
1. “She Was Weird” by Pete Yorn
“Got left on the side of the road,
no one’s gonna take you home again,
my baby.
Got left where no one knows.
I thought you were a better friend to me,
my friend.”
One of my favorite tracks from Arrangingtime. “She Was Weird” just gets better with time. I was listening to it while driving to work this morning. The sun was coming up over Echo Park as I drove through, people out walking, running, ducking into coffee places. I saw a girl walking her dog with a book in her hand, reading as she went. Made me smile. This track was the perfect accompaniment to the scene. Truly.
2. “Motion Sickness” by Phoebe Bridgers
“I have emotional motion sickness,
somebody roll the window down.”
I’m so obsessed with this song this week. I can’t stop playing it. It made its way onto this week’s Monday Playlist, and every time I play the mix I hit repeat on this track at least a few times. I can’t get enough of “Motion Sickness”.
3. “Lazy Jane” by Jenny O.
“I’m never gonna be a pro-skater –
I can’t do tricks,
and I ain’t that sick.
I’m always gonna be a hazy deleter –
All my stories.
All my glory.”
I stumbled on a playlist I made today, in 2016, and have been listening to it off and on today. When I got to this track I was reminded how much I love “Lazy Jane” (and Jenny O). It’s nice to bump into old songs you loved before and re-obsess over them.
4. “I’ll Be Your Girl” by The Decemberists
“So, when everything soft upbraids you,
when fortune has long betrayed you,
and you’re longing for an arm to stay you –
I’ll be your girl.”
“I’ll Be Your Girl”, the title track off of the recent album by The Decemberists – one of my favorite albums of the year, for sure. Every track is so damn good.
5. “Drive the Night” by Kristin Kontrol
“Tell me when you last saw me crack a smile.
Tell me when your heart became a place of exile.”
Such a great driving song “Drive the Night” is. Another track that makes me want to take a road trip.
