Thursday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions are a collection of songs that came to my mind as I was on my long commute to work. They came to me randomly, half from shuffle-listening to all my playlists together, and a half from songs that jumped into my mind while driving. For a random mix of five songs, they all sound great together.
Top 5 Music Obsessions – May 31, 2018
1. “I’ll Be Your Pilot” by Belle And Sebastian
“It’s tough to become a grown up,
put it off while you can.”
It is so very to be a grown-up. It is so hard to make our way.
2. “Late” by Ben Folds
“It’s too late.
Don’t you know,
it’s been too late,
for a long time.”
This is a heartbreaking song from a wonderful album that I’ve been listening to, on repeat, for most of my morning at work.
3. “St. Judy’s Comet” by Paul Simon
“Won’t you run come see St.Judy’s Comet?
Roll across the skies,
and leave a spray of diamonds,
in its wake.”
I wish I’d seen Paul Simon play at the Hollywood Bowl. By the time I thought to get tickets it was too late. Today though I’m enjoying his music, especially thing song.
4. “Foolin'” by Devendra Banhart
“One day,
one day at a time.
One day,
one day at a time.”
My mantra right now. I keep turning this one up louder and singing-a-long. I just have to get through one day, one day at a time. Someday this pain will subside, I just know it.
5. “Awful” by Hole
“It was punk.
Yeah, it was perfect.
Now it’s awful.”
It sure is.
