Portishead Top 5 Music Obsessions

Top 5 Music Obsessions featuring Portishead

Wednesday is here. This time around it doesn’t hurt as bad, or maybe this time around I’m just not thinking about it. I never thought it would be like this with us. But then again, I never thought we’d break up. But if I’d ever thought of us not being an us, I would have thought we could have remained friends, or at least communicative. I’ve found myself hurt more by trying to be, discovering just how cold and non-responsive someone who was never anything but warm and kind to me can be.

Enough now. It’s time to sort myself out and figure out my life without us. Every day I’m making small strides. Its slow and hard, but I’m doing it. I’ve discovered what amazing friends I have. They keep reminding me that I’m valued and loved. Its hard to believe it, but I’m trying. Music helps. Friends help. Making plans helps, too. I’ve got so many adventures ahead of me.

Today I have work, a movie later, lots of writing, conversations with people who help me smile, and 5 new Music Obsessions to play loudly.

Top 5 Music Obsessions – May 30, 2018

1. “Cowboys” by Portishead

“The truth is sold,
the deal is done.
But don’t despair,
this day will be their damnedest day.”

One of my Top 10 favorite Portishead songs. It sounds brilliant played loudly. It sounds brilliant at any volume really, but loudly, while driving around at night. Try it sometime.

2. “White Glass” by Loma

Loma

“You unfold like a scorpion shining,
in a night so dark,
and curled to strike.”

A new song discovery from SubPop Records YouTube. Really good stuff. Have a listen.

3. “Galaxies” by Laura Veirs

“Galaxies,
pour down my cheeks.
Galaxies,
they flood the street.
Galaxies.”

I think I’ve cried more in the last week and a half than I have in two years and a half. But today I haven’t cried at all. The galaxies are being held at bay today, perhaps.

4. “Life On Mars?” by Keren Ann

“But the film is a saddening bore,
for she’s lived it ten times or more.”

I’ve been obsessing over Bowie covers lately. This is my newest find. The vocals remind me of Azure Ray.

5. “I’m Not In Love” by Mark Kozelek

“I keep your picture,
upon the wall,
it hides a nasty stain that’s lying there.
So don’t you ask me,
to give it back.”

Another cover that just came into my life today, this one via Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist. There’s always some gems in them.
