Wednesday is the first day this week where I feel rested, hopeful, and motivated. I can see that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel, and the possibilities that lie in that light. I’m still overwhelmed, overextended, and over a lot of things, but I’m also feeling stronger and more confident that I can get through this rough patch. Getting a good night sleep (finally) is helping with this new clarity, but Music is helping, too. It always does. Music is my constant. And Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions are all part of that Magic that Music is to me.
So, let’s hear about them, shall we? I’m ready to Turn them Up Loud. Are you?
The 5 starts out with a Bright Eyes Song from the Album Cassadaga. It’s been years since I’ve listened to this Album, which is a shame because I love it very much. A friend online reminded me of it this week when he posted the Song “Soul Singer In a Session Band”. I played it, and played it again, then immediately went to listen to the entire Album. Conor Oberst songwriting is amazing, and this Album reminds me of recovery, of Los Angeles, of depression, and of hope.
Next up is “the night will always win”, from Elbow. How gorgeous is Guy Garvey’s voice? It gets to me, emotionally, every time I hear him Sing. This Song is no exception.
Track 3 is “Such Great Heights” from The Postal Service. I started out today listening to Rilo Kiley, which led to me playing tracks from Jenny Lewis‘ Solo Album, which led me to The Postal Service and this Song. Oh my stars, the journeys Music takes me on.
New Order’s Song “Thieves Like Us” follows perfectly, as if these two Songs should always hold Musical hands with each other.
Last, but not least, is “El President” from Drugstore. I can still remember going to see Drugstore play live in the late 90’s. I always thought they would be a bigger Band than they ended up being. Regardless, they are to me. Have a listen to this one, with the Volume Turned Up Loud, and see if you don’t agree.
