Hello Tuesday, nice to see you again. I greeted you today with significantly more sleep than I did Monday, though I could sure use some more. Hot coffee and fresh blueberries to throw into a protein shake were available, Clyde the cat was nearby trying to coax me back under the blankets for a snuggle (I reluctantly declined), and Aimee Mann’s voice was swirling around in my head. Most mornings I wake with a Song in my mind. I’m not always sure where they’ve come from. Maybe my dreamscape is soundtracked. I wouldn’t be surprised. This morning it was Aimee Mann.
Did you wake up with a Song in your mind?
Track 1 of Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions is the Song I woke within my head. “Save Me” from Aimee Mann, one of my forever Favorites of hers. Aimee is one of my Favorite Singer-Songwriters. I’m itching to see a live show of hers again. I hope she plays in LA again soon. I’ve been having a rough time of it lately and playing this in my car, a few times in a row, made me cry.
Next up is “I Miss the Zoo”, one of my Top 10 Favorites by Joseph Arthur. A friend of mine brought up Joseph Arthur (and a new project he’s doing with Peter Buck of R.E.M. fame) and it got me thinking about his Joseph’s Music. This Song always gets to me. It reminds me of Lou Reed’s “Walk On the Wild Side” quite a bit. I know Lou was quite an influence on Joseph. I love this version of “I Miss the Zoo”, from 2016’s Redemption City. I love the Cocteau-sounding guitar and the Dream Pop feel to it. Today this Song made me cry, too.
Song 3 is “Hey Sunrise” from The Charlatans’ 2017 Album, Different Days, a very underrated Album of theirs. “Hey Sunrise” is the opening Track and a gorgeous one of that. I know I’ve “Obsessed” over this one a few times already, but it was time to do it again.
“Ciao!” from Lush is up next. I always forget how much I love Lush until I randomly run up against one of their Songs. This morning I ran into “Ciao!” via one of Spotify’s “Your Daily Mix” (Mix 2) and had to listen to it a few times this morning, and then a few more times in the afternoon. Yep, I’m definitely Obsessing over it.

Last, but not least, is “Alone/With You” by Daughter. Over the last few years, Daughter has become one of my Favorites. Enough so that I’m going to be compiling a Top 10 List of their Songs. Stay tuned.
