Wednesday is finally here. Mid-week Wednesday, halfway there Wednesday, my Favorite weekday Wednesday. How are you feeling this Wednesday? I feel clearer today, better rested, coffee in hand and Music playing. Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions all lean in the Folk and Alt-Country side of things. I woke up with Ryan Adams in my head and it all fell together from there. What Music are you Obsessing over today?
The first Song is from Ryan Adams. “New York, New York” was the Track I woke up with, Singing in my head. It reminds me of how much I want to visit New York. Every year I think THIS will be the year. So far it hasn’t been the year. Yet. Maybe THIS year is.
Joni Mitchell is such a huge part of my childhood. “Carey”, off of her 1971 Album Blue, is a Song I’d forgotten about until today. When it came on my Spotify Discover Weekly Playlist I was immediately transformed into a wee girl barefoot in our first living room, spinning around my Mom’s giant speakers to this Song.
Karen Dalton is a new discovery of mine. She was making Folk Music around the same time as Joni. A matter of fact this Song, “Something On Your Mind” was released the same year as Joni’s Song “Carey”. I was introduced to Karen’s Music via the Lyric site I’ve mentioned a few times lately – Always On the Run. I’m so glad I found it again.
The next two Songs were both featured in my Favorite TV Series of all-time, “Gilmore Girls”. Yo La Tengo’s “My Little Corner of the World” and Sam Phillips’ “How to Dream”. When I’m having a lot of anxiety, like this week, its “Gilmore Girls” I turn to. It is a guaranteed feel-good watch for me.
