Top 5 Music Obsessions featuring Broken Social Scene

Lookie-lookie, we made it to Tuesday. One more day down and a step, or two, closer to the weekend. I spent the morning dealing with little challenges that are not significant but frustrate and slow me down. I’m healing from a steam burn on my left hand which makes it harder to do small things that I’m used to breezing through – dishes, washing my hair, anything involving water really. Then went to make coffee only to find that we were out of coffee filters. I found a workable solution and “winged it” as they say, but it was another wee bump in my morning routine. But, once in the car and on my way, the Music took over, as it always does, and things turned around. Some of what I listened to, and had in my head made it’s way to Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions.

Song 1 comes from Broken Social Scene. “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl” was one of the first BSS Songs I ever heard. This Song always reminds me of living in Chicago and working at Tower Records. The Album that this Track is off of, You Forgot It In People, was playing and I got into a long discussion about the Album, this Song, and Music with this striking woman who was traveling through the city. This was an Album that always sold whenever we played it, especially once it hit this Song – kind of like that scene in High Fidelity. Do you remember?

“Big Sur” from The Thrills is up next. I will always associate this Song with the TV Series The OC, which had the best Soundtrack. So much good Music played every episode, and so many Artists and Bands I discovered from it, including The Thrills.

Delays have been on my mind a lot these last two days (see today’s Song of the Day). I’ve been rediscovering the Album, Faded Seaside Glamour. “Wanderlust” is the opening Track, and it was also in this Week’s Spotify Discover Weekly Playlist.

One of my Favorite Cover Songs, Jane’s Addiction’s Version of The Grateful Dead’s Song “Ripple” is Song 4 Today. A beautiful friend of mine who used to make the best Mix Tapes introduced me to it, tucking it into one of her Summer themed Mixes. It does remind me of Summer, as does all the Songs so far in Today’s Top 5. I think I’m longing for Summer today in a big way.

Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life” is the 5th Song in Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions. I’ve been working on the new lyriquediscorde feature, New Wave on Mondays, and have been delving into all my favorite New Wave Songs, Albums, Artists, and Bands. This is one of the Songs among the bunch that I’ve been listening lately.

You can hear these 5 Songs below, or you can stream via Spotify and YouTube where each day’s 5 will be added.
