Monday’s back again, the last one of 2018’s March. This year is speeding by, isn’t it? This Monday has been speeding by, too, it seems. A minute ago my wake-up alarm was going off, and now its almost time for a lunch break. I’m heading out to take a walk as the weather is gorgeous today, and will take along these 5 Songs from Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions. I’ve been obsessing over them all morning, playing them on repeat and singing-a-long while I’ve been checking off items on my To-Do List.
The First Song I’ve been obsessing over is “Sugar Town” by Nancy Sinatra. This past weekend was a long one for me, as I took Friday off of work for my birthday, and during that long weekend “Sugar Town” kept playing in my head, sometimes mashed-up with Petula Clark’s “Downtown”. Someone should really make that Mash-Up! It sounded great in my head.
Next up is Dusty Springfield’s Tune “I Only Want To Be With You”, a Song that reminds me of Summers spent at my Grandparents house, where my Aunt also lived. She had this keen 8-Track Tape collection and I used to listen to one that had “I Only Want To Be With You” on it. I’d sing-a-long into a hairbrush, and make up dances to perform in the backyard to an audience of my Aunt, and various stuffed animals.
My all-time Favorite Song by the Pretenders (and one of my all-time Favorite Songs) is the 3rd in Today’s Top 5 Obsessions. I can never get enough of “Back On the Chain Gang”. “Back on the Chain Gang” was recorded after James Honeyman-Scott, the Pretenders guitarist died of a drug overdose at the age of 25 on June 16, 1982. Chrissie Hynde wrote it as a memorial and dedicated it to Honeyman-Scott. (from Wikipedia)
“I Heard Ramona Sing” by Frank Black is Track 4. This one always reminds me of the Film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and the character Ramona Flowers in it. “I Heard Ramona Sing” was on the Soundtrack to the Film.
“Pictures of Matchstick Men” by Status Quo is the “last but not least” Song in this Top 5. I listened to this Song over the weekend on one of my boyfriend’s Pandora Music stations. I used to prefer Camper Van Beethoven’s Cover of this, but I think my preference has switched. I love the Psychedelic meets Garage Rock feel to it.
You can hear these 5 Songs below, or you can stream via Spotify and YouTube where each day’s 5 will be added.
