Another bout of insomnia has left me tired this morning. Too many days of too little sleep adds up in a way that coffee doesn’t cure. But Music does. Music pretty much cures everything. I definitely needed a little edge this morning, a bit of attitude, and a dose of energy. The first Track today really gifts all of that – edge, attitude, energy. Let’s have a listen.
Song 1 is “Why’d Ya Do It” by Marianne Faithfull. Oh, my stars what a Song this is. So much anger, attitude, and power. I’d forgotten how much I love the Broken English Album. I think I’ll be putting it on heavy commute rotation this month. Next up is Baxter Dury’s “Mungo”. I hadn’t heard Baxter before until today. Vocally, he sounds so much like his Father, Ian Dury. Air’s “Lucky and Unhappy” is Song 3. I’ve been very much in an Air mood lately, especially after picking up a vinyl copy of Moon Safari last week. Every day since I’ve been exploring other Songs and Albums. Today I’ve been digging into the Album 10 000 Hz Legend. One of my Favorite 80’s Songs, “Europa and the Pirate Twins” is up next. I love the Story in this, and the catchy, Electro-Pop/New Wave sound. Thomas Dolby is so underrated in my opinion. Last, but not least, is “Mourning Sound” by Grizzly Bear, off of their 2017 Album, Painted Ruins. A great sound to tie up the Top 5. I love how early 80’s it feels.
