“All Around the World” (live on the Marc Bolan Show, 1977) by The Jam
Welcome back to Weller Wednesday, where we celebrate All Things Weller. This week features a Live Track from the Marc Bolan Show called “All Around the World”. The Song was released as a Single in July of 1977 and reached #13 in the UK Singles Chart that same year.
It was released as a Single only (in the UK), with the B-Side of “Carnaby Street”. Its release occurred between The Jam’s debut Album, In the City, and their sophomore Album, This Is the Modern World. It also appeared as Track 2 on the US Version of This Is the Modern World, as well as the 8-Track Tape release.
The Song was featured in the documentary of British cyclist, and self-proclaimed Jam-fan, Bradley Wiggins. The documentary is called A Year in Yellow, and it traces Wiggins’ attempts to win the 2012 Tour de France.
The Marc Bolan Show, called “Marc”, created and hosted by T. Rex lead singer Marc Bolan, was produced in Manchester by Granada TV for the ITV Network. It had only one season because before the second could be produced, Bolan passed away. There were only six episodes in the first season.
I love how Marc introduces them as “JAM!” and not The Jam.
