Here comes another Monday right at us, whether we’re ready, or not. This Monday is a special one for me because 26 years ago today I became a Mother. I was pretty young, 23 years old, and in so many ways I wasn’t ready. But, in so many ways it was the very best thing that could have happened. It changed my life in a gazillion different ways, and I’m grateful for all of them, even the rough ones. Today is also the birthday of one of my best friends who I’ve known since 1986. So many memories, and so much music we’ve shared in the 32 years we’ve known each other. Today is a holiday, as well. Martin Luther King, Jr. day. Though I’m working, it was a bit of a blessing to drive to work with little to no traffic, something nearly unheard of in Los Angeles. But I digress, today is also a new day for 5 Top Music Obsessions, so let’s get to them.
Track one is a new discovery Artist and Song with Amber Arcades’ “It Changes”. The Spotify “Discover Weekly” Playlists are one of my favorite things about Mondays. I discover, and rediscover, so much Music this way. Next up is Angel Olsen, with my favorite Song of hers, “Shut Up Kiss Me”. This is a Turn It Up Loud kind of Song. Bonus points to sing-a-long (or kiss someone while it plays Loud). Song 3 is “Monday Morning” by Fleetwood Mac. Maybe an obvious choice, but it was the first Song stuck in my head today. The Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter” is next up, one of my all-time faves of theirs. Then, last but not least, and with a heavy heart, “Twenty One” by The Cranberries. I just heard the news that the gorgeously voiced Singer, Dolores O’ Riordan passed away while in London recording new Music. I remember seeing The Cranberries in 1994 at Universal Amphitheater with my late husband. All three are now gone. Time is so strange, life is strange, too. Beautiful and strange. I’m glad her voice existed and that I got to hear, and love, her Music with The Cranberries.
