Tuesday’s Edition of the Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day is on the mellow side, soothing and soulful, weaving between folk, rock, indie, and soul. This chest cold is hitting hard and I’m moving on the slower side because of it, so the songs on this list are ones that are making me feel a little better. These are also songs that feel like writing muses to me today, each and every one of them. I may be picking from one of them to be a “song title writing prompt” for today.
Song 1 is “Learning to Fly” by Tom Petty. I am still so sad over his sudden death. His music has always been a favorite of mine. A Top 10 of Petty’s music is in the making for later this week, and this Track is definitely on the list. Next up is Bob Dylan’s melancholic beauty of a tune, “Just Like a Woman” and then its Jenny And Johnny’s “Animal” off of their delight of a duet album, I’m Having Fun Now. The Rolling Stones “Waiting On a Friend” is Track 4, one of my favorites from the Stones. There is something about this song that always reminds me of a late afternoon walking around Venice Beach, back in 1989. Finally, Otis Redding’s quintessential tune “(Sittin’ On) the Dock of the Bay” brings this Top 5 to a close for the day. This song ALWAYS makes me feel better.

Love this little playlist. I only really started exploring the music of Tom Petty earlier this year and while I knew lots of the more popular hits I’ve really been loving his older stuff, it’s so sad how suddenly he passed. Not old either.
