Monday is here again and with it another Monday edition of the Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day. At least the music is here to get us through, especially if you turn these 5 songs up loud and sing-a-long. Today’s mix of 5 is an eclectic group of musicians and bands that I actually think would make a very interesting mini-festival if that was possible (dear Lou Reed, would you come back to earth for an eclectic Music Obsession mini-festival?)
The first song is by Holly Golightly, the singer-songwriter with the same name of one of my favorite fictional characters. “Fool Fool Fool (Look In the Mirror)” was the first track in this week’s “Your Discovery Weekly” from Spotify. At first listen I was hooked and knew it would be a great first track for my Top 5 today, too. Up next is another song from the same Discovery playlist. Trailer Trash Tracys’ song “Candy Girl” – both the band and the song are complete “new discoveries” to me. I think you might want to discover them, too. Track 3 is definitely not new to me. It is one of my all-time favorite DEVO songs ever – “Girl U Want”. The Weepies’ tune, “World Spins Madly On” is song 4. This one always reminds me of the TV Series “Gilmore Girls”, though I’m not sure it was ever played on the show. Either way, it just feels “Star’s Hollow” to me (“GG” fans out there, do you agree). Last, but certainly not least, is Lou Reed’s quintessential song, “Walk On the Wild Side”. I can pretty much guarantee the lyric “and the colored girls go doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo” will get stuck in your head today.
