Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day – 9/12/17

Listen on Spotify and YouTube

Tuesday is here and feels especially overwhelming today. Part of this is a “light at the end of the tunnel” that Friday represents (and not just because YAY FRIDAY, but for other reasons), part of it is that I have somehow injured my back and am in a lot of pain, as well as a variety of other stresses. But, I am refusing to let any of it get me down. Instead, I am turning UP UP UP the music and letting it wash over me, and over the overwhelm. Music is the solution to just about everything.

Song 1 is my favorite from Cat Stevens. “The Wind” is so dreamy and beautiful, albeit a little sad. It always reminds me of a scene from Almost Famous, with Penny Lane dancing in an empty auditorium. A scene I have always thought was so beautiful and vulnerable and indicative of who her character was. Next up is “Big Calm” from Morcheeba. I could use a heavy dose of BIG calm right now. Though, when you really listen, there is not much that is calm about this song. No, instead it seems to permeate a feeling of unease, but in a melodic kind of way.”About Today”, from The National is # 3. I stumbled on this song early this morning and have been obsessing over it ever since. Track 4 is “Left of the Dial” from The Replacements. How can you not smile listening to this song? “Here Comes Your Mind” by the Pixies ends it all for today. This is the song of the bunch that I’ve hit “replay” the most today.
