Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day – 8/29/17

Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day

Listen on Spotify and YouTube

Tuesday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions is made up another eclectic mix of style, sound, and of old and new. That said, all 5 songs are ready-to-play, and play LOUD. This mix of music has been tailor-made for a Tuesday. The melodies here are catchy, at times uplifting, at other times melancholic. Together I think they rise and fall perfectly into each other, like the ebb and flow of the sea.

Are you ready to sail through today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions?

The Zombies are up first with a the timeless track “This Will Be Our Year”. If I didn’t know that this song was released in 1968 I would swear that it was an Indie Pop/Folk song written and recorded this year. Laura Veirs and Saltbreakers is track 2. This one is a new discovery for me (thank you Spotify Discovery). Out of the 5 songs today this is the one I am most obsessed with. I think I played it about 6 times during my morning commute, and I’m sure I will press play a few more times today. The Mynabirds “New Moon” is a fantastic track from their album Be Here Now, available through Saddle Creek Records. I can’t recommend the song, and album, enough – go now go and check it out. One of my all-time favorite songs, “Candy”, from the incomparable Iggy Pop and the gorgeous-voiced Kate Pierson is up next. I never get tired of this track. It always reminds me of late Summer and long drives. Another forever favorite ends today’s Top 5. Cocteau Twins “Bluebird” is so beautiful. Airy, moody, stunning – it is another song that I keep hitting replay on today. Maybe you will, too.

2. “Don’t Lose Yourself” by Laura Veirs And Saltbreakers

“We slept in the shadow of a cedar tree,
we made love on the rolling tide.
We smelled the perfume of the waxing moon,
we dreamt of all friendships kind.
We touched the blood of the black cat,
we pet the mammoth dog of tears.
In the flickering light we were laughing:
‘necessity conquers fear!'”
