Bobby Bland “Shoes” for Northern Soul Monday

Bobby Bland, born Robert Calvin Bland in January of 1930, was known professionally as Bobby “Blue” Bland and was an American Blues Singer until his death in June of 2013.
Bland is noted as developing a Sound that mixed Gospel with the Blues and R&B. He was also nicknamed the “Lion of the Blues” and the “Sinatra of the Blues”. Bobby said that one of his biggest influences was Nat King Cole.
In 1981, Bobby Bland was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, and in 1992 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and then in 2012, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame inducted him. He received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, in 1997, as well.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame described him as “second in stature only to B.B. King as a product of Memphis’s Beale Street blues scene”.
“Shoes”, which was released in 1967, with the B-Side of “A Touch of the Blues”, was a Huge Hit on the Decks and on the Dance Floor at the Wigan Casino. Below is a recording of the Song with a Wigan Casino DJ introducing it:
