We have a Quintessential Beach Boys (pictured below) Song that leads into a Cover, that sets the tone for the rest of the Top 5 Mix. What better way to put together another Summertime Top 5 than starting with The Beach Boys. Get ready and Turn Up the Volume, you won’t want to miss today’s Music Obsessions.
Song 1 is one of the Best Beach Boys Songs, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”, from the Spectacular Album, Pet Sounds. From there we have She & Him covering another one of the Best Beach Boys Songs, “God Only Knows”. Laura Marling brings in # 3 with a song off her latest Album, Semper Femina, which leads in perfectly to Elbow’s Gorgeous Song, “One Day Like This”. Dusty Springfield (pictured below) ends Today’s Top 5 with a Deep Cut from the Album Dusty In Memphis.

Such a Song of Youth, and of Summertime. The naivete and dreaminess of First Love. Beyond the Summer Love Lyrics is a complex and perfectly Produced Pop Song that stands the test of time, and will continue to for years and years to come.
2. “God Only Knows” :: She & Him
“I may not always love you,
but long as there are stars above you,
you never need to doubt it,
I’ll make you so sure about it.
God only knows what I’d be without you.”
One of the Best Love Songs to ever be written. Though I prefer the original, this is a sweet Cover Song that works well with Zooey’s Voice.
3. “Wild Fire” :: Laura Marling
“She keeps a pen behind her ear,
because she’s got something she really really needs to say.
She puts it in a notepad,
she’s gonna write a book someday.”
I feel this Song so deeply, so personally. This Album is Laura’s Best, so far.
44. “One Day Like This” :: Elbow
“What made me behave that way?
Using words I never say.
I can only think it must be love.
Oh, anyway,
it’s looking like a beautiful day.”
That moment when you realize you are in love is so Beautiful and Perfect and Terrifying and Alive Feeling. There is nothing much in this world that can compare. This Song reminds me of that Feeling.
And, oh my stars, this Song is Gloriously Gorgeous.
5. “Breakfast In Bed” :: Dusty Springfield
“Breakfast in bed,
and a kiss or three.
You don’t have to say you love me.”
A lesser known Dusty Song, but one so worth knowing, Listening to, and becoming Obsessed with.
