Monday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day is back again, gifting us an arsenal of 5 Songs to face the day and take on another new week with, 5 bullets in your Musical gun to Ready – Aim – Play (Loudly). All 5 of Today’s Song have a bit of an Edge to them, dipping into the Genres of New Wave, Punk, Art Rock and Grunge. We hope that these Tracks will fuel you, and have you Turning Up the Volume, and Singing-A-Long.
Song 1 is a Favorite Roxy Music (pictured below) Track from their Album Stranded. I woke up with the Chorus of “Mother Of Pearl” Spinning around in my head, which helped to mold and form Today’s Top 5. Next up is Mission of Burma’s Song, “That’s When I Reach for My Revolver”, which leads perfectly into The Cars’ Song, “Double Life”, from their Quintessential Album, Candy-O. A Killer Cover, off of the Compilation Album Punk Vs. New Wave, comes from The Stranglers. Last, but certainly not least, is one of the Best Dinosaur Jr. Songs, from their 1994 Album Without A Sound. “Feel The Pain” feels like the best way to get through a Monday, don’t you think?
Here’s to surviving another Monday, and for these Top 5 Songs that are here to help get us through. Don’t forget to Listen, and Turn Up this Top 5. TOP 5 MUSIC OBSESSIONS OF THE DAY:
1. “Mother of Pearl” (Live) :: Roxy Music
“Oh, mother of pearl,
I wouldn’t trade you for another girl.”
A “Mother of Pearl” is the inside of the pearl itself, that is also called a nacre. It is the part of the pearl that makes it a pearl, and it has tremendous strength. I’m not sure if that has any bearing on the Song, but when looking up information on this Song I came across that description, along with a listeners interpretation that this Song represents a search for “The One” (i.e. True Love). Listening to the Song on repeat this morning I am blown away by the transitions of Sound. At times it feels like more than one Song. The Live Version above is pretty incredible.
2. “That’s When I Reach for My Revolver” :: Mission Of Burma
“Once I had my heroes,
and once I had my dreams.
But all of that is changed now.“
I had almost forgotten about Mission Of Burma until I heard them in a Discover Mix on Spotify. I’m glad for the rediscovery, and for this Song to Turn Up Loud.
3. “Double Life” (Live) :: The Cars
“It takes a fast car lady to lead a double life.
It takes a slow star lady if you want to do it twice.”
Today may have been the first time I ever really Listened to this Song’s Lyrics. I am Digging how Car-related they are, and how cars/the road/everything automotive bring something else entirely to life.
4. “For What It’s Worth” :: The Stranglers
“There’s battle lines being drawn.
Nobody’s right,
if everybody’s wrong.“
I Love Cover Songs. What do you think of this one?
5. “Feel the Pain” :: Dinosaur Jr.
“I feel the pain of everyone ,
then I feel nothing.”
Out of all 5 Top Music Obsession Songs of the Day, this one is the one that I keep repeating. It just fits perfectly into this Monday morning. I feel like I could just keep Listening to it all day.
So, there we have it – This Week’s Edgy Monday Mix of Top 5 Music Obsessions. Hope you all Pressed Play and Turned that Volume Way Up, and Enjoyed Today’s 5 Songs.
