Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day meets up with Thursday to share a Killer Mix of Old and New, turning this Friday Eve into something Sonic and Melodic. The weather here in Los Angeles is still so Juney-Gloomy, with even a tease of rain in small droplets from the sky, but we have the Music to be the Sun in our eyes, and ears, don’t we? Check it out, these next 5 Songs are certain to have you Singing-A-Long.

First up is one of The Kills’ (pictured below) Best Songs, from the Album Blood Pressures, the Track “Baby Says”. “Vanishing Girl”, by The Dukes of Stratosphear, is a bit of the lesser known from 1987, a side-project/EP that XTC Recorded to parody (affectionately) ’60’s Psychedelia and Guitar Pop. Obviously, the next Song needed to be an actual XTC Recording, don’t you think? And, what better Song to Feature than “Making Plans for Nigel”. “Uncertain Smile”, by The The, takes Song # 4, and it all wraps up with Howard Jones’ (pictured below) Hit, “Things Can Only Get Better”.

So, keep on keeping on, Gloom June, we are just fine here with Thursday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day. We are armed with good Headphones and Speakers, the kind you can Turn Up to Loud, to Blast out this Awesome Mix of Top 5 Music Obsession Songs. Don’t you worry if you missed a day of Music this week, you can always catch-up throughout the week through those Links above. Each Day’s Songs are added to the Spotify and YouTube Playlists for the Week, put together with Care and Music Obsession, for your Listening, and Music Obsessing, Pleasure.

TOP 5 MUSIC OBSESSIONS OF THE DAY:

1. “Baby Says” :: The Kills

Baby says,
she’s dying to meet you,
take you off,
and make your blood hum,
and tremble like,
the fairground lights.

This Song always reminds me of The Velvet Underground’s Song, “Candy Says”. I think I need to put them back-to-back/song-to-song on a Playlist sometime. Though not my Favorite Kills Song (that would be “Black Balloon”), this is definitely in my Top 10.

2. “Vanishing Girl” :: The Dukes of Stratosphear

The man from number four,
has a vanishing girl.
A vanishing girl,
yes,
she’d give you a twirl.

I stumbled on this Song this morning and while Listening to it I kept thinking “I want to hear an XTC Song next”. So I did (see next Song). Then I looked up this Song and Band and realized this actually is XTC, and it all made sense.

3. “Making Plans for Nigel” :: XTC

“And if young Nigel says he’s happy,
he must be happy,
he must be happy in his work.”

Back in the early 90’s, when I was pregnant with my daughter, her father and I contemplated naming her Nigel if she was a boy. I am pretty sure it was because of this Song that her father chose it, though for me, at the time, I was reminded of (Nigel) John Taylor, from Duran Duran.

4. “Uncertain Smile” :: The The

“I’ve got you under my skin,
where the rain can’t get in.”

Every time I Listen to this Song I Love it more.

5. “Things Can Only Get Better” :: Howard Jones

“Treating today as though it was the last,
the final show.
Get to sixty and feel no regret.
It may take a little time a lonely path,
an uphill climb.
Success or failure will not alter it.”

I honestly cannot remember the last time I Listened to Howard Jones, or Heard this Song. This makes me want to break out my Vinyl of his and Binge-Listen.
