This 5 are a little Moody, delving a bit into the Goth and New Wave Genre, along with a newer Song Featured prominently in Netflix’s Original Series, 13 Reasons Why. This Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day Mix is sure to have you Swaying and Singing-A-Long, and still really warrants a Turn Up the Volume action. Are you ready for Today’s 5?

Song 1 is from Ultravox (pictured below). It is one of the Band’s Biggest Hits off of their Quintessential Album, Lament. Next up is the Song from 13 Reasons Why. Lord Huron’s Gorgeously Heartbreaking Song, “The Night We Met”, plays a significant part in the Series. If you saw it you will not easily forget the Song. Echo & The Bunnymen’s “The Killing Moon” takes the # 3 position, a Song that never gets old. The First Song I heard today comes in at # 4. Cocteau Twins’ “Wax and Wane” is also the First Cocteau Twins Song I ever heard. The Top 5 wraps up well with my Favorite Track by The Chameleons (pictured below) – “Swamp Thing” – from their Album, Strange Times.

TOP 5 MUSIC OBSESSIONS OF THE DAY:

1. “Dancing with Tears in My Eyes” :: Ultravox

“It’s five and I’m driving home again.
It’s hard to believe that it’s my last time.
The man on the wireless cries again,
it’s over,
it’s over.”

What a Vivid take on the aftermath of a break-up. The heartache that permeates everything, especially the Music we here. That feeling that even when you turn on the Radio, every Song Sings of the heartache you possess.

2. “The Night We Met” :: Lord Huron

“I had all,
and then most of you,
some,
and now none of you.
Take me back to the night we met.”

Another heart-breaker of a Song. It is hard to have seen the Series and hear this Song, and not feel rough and emotional. It is such a Beautiful Song though. Truly.

3. “The Killing Moon” :: Echo & The Bunnymen

“In starlit nights I saw you.
So cruelly you kissed me.
Your lips a magic world.
Your sky all hung with jewels.
The killing moon,
will come too soon.”

What a Gorgeous Song this is, and how it still holds up, and most likely always will. “So cruelly you kissed me” is a Lyric that has always stood out to me. It used to confuse me, leaving me wondering what a cruel kiss could be. But, I think it is the kiss of an impossible love.

4. “Wax and Wane” :: Cocteau Twins

“The devil bite’s dirty,
we wax and wane.”

Let’s hear it for another Gorgeous Song. The first Song I head this morning.

5. “Swamp Thing” :: The Chameleons

“I can already hear your tune,
calling me across the room.”

Sometimes I think every Mix should end with this Song.
