Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day brings us into Monday with some of the Best Songs Around that make up this 5 Song Mix that will certainly help get you through Monday, and the start of your Day. Today’s Top 5 has a bit of a Paul Weller slant because today is my wonderful, fellow music obsessive boyfriend’s birthday, and Paul Weller is his favorite artist, as well as a beloved artist here at lyriquediscorde. So, let’s Turn Up the Volume together and enjoy the Tunes.
Song 1 comes from Mr. Weller himself. This Song, “The Cranes are Back”, has become my Favorite Song off of the latest Album, A Kind Revolution. Next up is one of the Best Tracks by The The. This is an instant Feel Good Song to me. Hope it is to you, too. Song 3 is Weller again, this time with The Jam, off of their Quintessential Album, The Gift. “We Could Send Letters”, from Aztec Camera, is a recent Musical re-discovery of mine; such a Stellar Song it is. The Style Council (yes, Weller again) closes the Top 5 Mix for the day with “You’re The Best Thing”, chosen as a special birthday Shout-Out/Sing-Out.

This Song was a First Listen stand out when I first Played A Kind Revolution, and it has stayed a Favorite (possibly the # 1 Favorite of mine from the Album) ever since. For more about the Song see last week’s Weller Wednesday Post which featured a Live version of this Wonderful Song.
2. “This is the Day” :: The The
“This is the day,
your life will surely change.

when things fall into place.“
I Loved this Song when it first came out back in 1983, but I honestly thing this Year I Love it more. There is something about it that resonates so much now, at this time, and at my age now. It is full of that sentiment that every day can be “the day” to change, or stay the same, to love, to live, to do what it is you really want to do.
3. “Precious” :: The Jam
“Your precious love,
that means so much.
Will it ever stop,
or will I just lose touch?”
This was the First Song I heard this morning, in my car, in the throes of a Los Angeles commute. It fit perfectly with the early morning sun in the sky, the cityscape of Downtown LA on the horizon, and the sound of car engines driving by.

When was the last time you wrote an actual letter? Do you remember? I miss getting actual, handwritten letters in my post box.
