Monday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day This Week is a Bank Holiday Playlist, a Mix of the Best Songs for a Monday where you don’t have to be anywhere in particular, and may want to take it a bit slower, more languid and dreamy, like Today’s Obsessions Songs. There are also some more upbeat Tunes in the Mix, to add some variety into this unique sort of Monday. Best advice? Turn that Volume up and Enjoy.
Song 1 is my Favorite Track off of Spiritualized (pictured below) Album, Ladies & Gentleman We are Floating in Space. Next in Line is the Quintessential Jefferson Airplane Song that Celebrates Alice in her Psychedelic Wonderland. Up at # 3 is one of the Best Songs off of the most recent Primal Scream Album, Chaosmosis. “(Feeling Like a) Demon Again” makes me want to drive for hours, up the Coast, with all the windows rolled down, carving out an escape in asphalt and salt water air. Song 4 is a Gary Numan Song that I’d forgotten about until I stumbled upon it today, and that leads us right into The Human League (pictured below), for the final Music Obsession Song of the Day.
Cheers to Bank Holidays, for Volume Turned Up to High, and to these Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day that I can’t get enough of, and that I hope you can’t get enough of, too. No worries if you miss a day of Music Obsessions – you can always catch-up through the links above. Each Day’s Songs are Added to both the Spotify and YouTube Playlists for the Week, for your Listening, and Music Obsessing Pleasure.
TOP 5 MUSIC OBSESSIONS OF THE DAY:
1. “I Think I’m In Love” :: Spiritualized
“Sun so bright that I’m nearly blind.
Cool, ’cause I’m wired and I’m out of my mind.
Warm as the dope running down my spine.”
On first listen I did not realize this was yet another Ode to Heroin. Its such a conflict to my emotions to Love Songs dedicated to something I despise so enormously. But I do Love this Song. Art is a reflection of life and desires and loss and all the in-betweens and out-betweens. I cannot deny the truths out there, even if they are hard to hear.
2. “White Rabbit” :: Jefferson Airplane
“One pill makes you larger,
and one pill makes you small.
And, the ones that mother gives you,
don’t do anything at all.”
From one Drug Love Song to another, this one an Ode to Psychedelics, with a literary twist. I’ve Loved this Song since I was a little kid, long before I understood what “Feed Your Head” meant.
3. “(Feeling Like a) Demon Again)” :: Primal Scream
“I was jealous and insane.
Medication killed the pain.
don’t know what we’re fighting for.”
Is this another Ode to medication? It sure feels like it. Interesting how these Songs are coming together. This Track also is heavy with eighties New Wave sensibilities and Sounds. The opening reminded me so much of The Human League that I had to include them for Song #5.
4. “Bed of Thorns” :: Gary Numan
“I’m waiting in the dark,
waiting for a dark light,
to show me the way.”
Out of the 5, this is the Song I can’t get enough of today. I keep hitting Replay.
5. “The Things Dreams are Made Of” :: The Human League
“Everybody needs love and adventure,
everybody needs cash to spend.
Everybody needs love and affection,
everybody needs two or three friends.”
The Song most destined to get stuck in your head of this Top 5 Music Obsessions List. I was reminded of it while Listening to the Primal Scream Song above, and it turned it into a definite Ear Worm after that.
There you have it, Bank Holiday Monday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day. Hope you all Pressed Play and Turned that Volume Way Up, and Enjoyed Today’s 5 Songs.
