TOP 5 MUSIC OBSESSIONS OF THE DAY:

1. “Love’s in Need of Love Today” :: Stevie Wonder

“What I’m about to say,
could mean the world’s disaster,
could change your joy and laughter,
to tears and pain.
It’s that love’s,
in need,
of love today.
Don’t delay,
send yours in right away.”

I’m not a religious person, but to me this Song feels like religion, the kind of religion that I could wrap myself around. There is so much Soul here. A kind of Spirituality in Song. Do you hear it in the Song, too?

2. “The Cranes are Back” :: Paul Weller

There ain’t no chains on my back,
there’s only joy,
that freedom brings.”

Whether the kind of cranes with wings that take flight, or the kind of cranes that sit among new construction, “cranes” mean Hope in this Song. Seems something else we could all use right about now.

3. “Drifting Love” :: Mary Wells

“Is your heart made of stone,
cause everything I did was wrong?
If you know I really tried,
now all I do is sit,
and cry.”

An Ode to the ending of Love, or at least the slipping away of Love. This one makes me want to Dance despite the heartache feelings it also emits.

4. “Satisfied” :: Ben Aiken

S-A-T,
Lord I’m feeling good now,
I-F,
everything is alright,
F-I-E-D,
sock it to me,
baby.”

It may not be Monday anymore, but that doesn’t mean we can’t indulge in a little Classic Northern Soul. This is definitely a Classic, one that will have you wanting to go out Dancing.

5. “Call Me” :: Blondie

Color me your color, baby,
color me your car.
Color me your color, darling,
I know who you are.”

Blondie’s “Call Me” Single was one of the first Vinyl 45’s I owned as an adolescent, paid for with saved up babysitting money. I think I may still have it, too. I remember Playing this Song over, and over, and over again.
