Paul Weller, Top 5, Top 5 Music Obsessions

1. “Satellite Kid” :: Paul Weller

I’m so out,
I’m really in.”

It’s Paul Weller New Album Release Day! So excited! Giving it a First Spin and this is the Song that jumped out at me immediately. I love the Bluesy-Rock vibe to this one, catchy and raw and rockin’.

2.  “New Americana” :: Halsey

We are the new Americana.
High on legal marijuana.
Raised on Biggie and Nirvana.
We are the new Americana.”

I woke up with this Song Singing in my mind. Partially because my daughter has been working on a stripped down version of it to Sing for an Audition she is going on. So catchy, with sharp Lyrics which at first reminded me a bit of Lorde’s debut Release, and a little of Lana Del Rey’s Song “Ride”, but now has come into its own space.

3. “You Don’t Own Me” :: Lesley Gore

And don’t tell me what to do,
don’t tell me what to say,
and please,
when I go out with you,
don’t put me on display.”

One of my Favorite 45″ Records I would listen to from my Aunt’s Collection of Music. One Summer, while staying with her and my Grandparents, I would Play it every morning, first thing, and always Sing-A-Long.

4. “call the police” :: LCD Soundsystem

And we don’t waste time with love,
it’s just death from above.”

There is this Delicious 80’s New Wave Vibe to this Song that I am Digging so much. If I didn’t know better I would bet that it was from the early 80’s. I close my eyes and I feel transported to 1981.

I Turn Up the Volume Louder, and then Louder still. Oh My Stars, this Song makes me want to dance – right now.

5. “Is the Is Are” :: DIIV

You ain’t the first to realize.
You ain’t the first to look in my eyes.”

And this Track takes me back to the very late 80’s/early 90’s. Think First Stone Roses Album. That Sound and Sensibility definitely permeates this Song, especially the Guitar work. Its all their own Sound, too, genuine and original. But I still do hear that Stone Roses influence swirling through.

DIIV, Top 5, Top 5 Music Obsessions

Happy Friday everyone! We hope you enjoyed Friday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day! We hope you Pressed Play and Turned Up the Volume as Loud as you could.
