Wednesday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day are overflowing with the Best Songs, some New Tracks, some Recent, and Some more in the Retro Vein – all of them Obsession-worthy. There is Playfulness in this Set, and still that feeling of Spring that started in Yesterday’s Top 5. It ends on a bit of a Melancholic Tone, but with undercurrents of Hope and Desire. There is a lot of Wishing in these Songs, and Wistfulness, that just seems to fit the Feeling of a Wednesday. Turn Up the Volume and see if you Feel it, too. And, as always, feel free to Sing-A-Long with Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions.

The First Song up is the Opening Track off of Perfume Genius’ (pictured below) New Album, No Shape. Its a Stunner of a Song, and one of my First Listen Favorites when I Listened, and Reviewed the Album last week. Next Up is a Tune from a New Artist, and Discovery, Declan McKenna. I think Declan is an Artist to watch right now. I think he’s on the cusp of something Big.  One of my Favorite Songs from Last Night’s Pete Yorn show is Song # 3. Stay tuned soon for a Review from the Show here at lyriquediscorde. “Breathe”, from Télépopmusik, inhales and exhales in Spot 4, in all its Electronic Beauty. Last, not not Least, is the Duran Duran (pictured below) Song, “Lonely in Your Nightmare”, from the Band’s Quintessential Album, Rio, which turned 35 this week.

TOP 5 MUSIC OBSESSIONS OF THE DAY:

1. “Slip Away” :: Perfume Genius

Take my hand,
take my everything.
If we only got a moment,
give it to me now.”

Such a Beautiful Song. It feels like a celebration of Love, and taking a risk for Love. There is something about this Song that reminds me of early Erasure.

2. “Brazil” :: Declan McKenna

“‘Cause I haven’t bought you,
and I haven’t sold me.
But the people are dying to get on TV.”

Societal slam Lyrically in this Song. Its heavy, but served with a lightness that the Song’s Pop Sensibilities bring. The Video takes it even further, commenting visually on misappropriation and consumerism.

As I mentioned above, Declan is definitely one to watch.

3. “Lost Weekend” :: Pete Yorn

“You can tell the truth.
You can tell a lie.
Say anything you want to say.
Are we all just lost in time?

My Favorite performance from Last Night’s Show at the Constellation Room was this Song. The arrangement done acoustically was emotional and beautiful, and blew me away. I’m a fan of the original, too – since the first time I heard it.

4. “Breathe” :: Télépopmusik

There’s nothing to do but believe.
Just Believe.
Just Breathe.”

This is one of my go-to Songs when I need to feel better, to feel stronger, to remember to keep breathing. It always makes me feel better.

5. “Lonely in Your Nightmare” :: Duran Duran

Because you’re lonely in your nightmare,
let me in
And there’s heat beneath your winter,
let me in.”

Speaking of always making me feel better. Duran Duran have had my heart since I was a young teenager. I think their Music always will.

Also, Happy 35th Birthday Rio.
