Monday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day brings along 5 Best Songs of the Day to ease us into the Week with 5 Swirling Sounds of Music from an array of Amazing Artists and Albums. What better way to get us through a Monday than with a Mix of 5 Great Songs. All 5 hit the Mellow vein to help us breathe a bit easier, and take on the possible stresses of the day with a dose of Calm and Beauty.

Today’s Mix of 5 starts out with a Late Nineties Track from Neil Finn taken off his Solo Album, Try Whistling This. Next up is a Song from the Early Aughts from the Trashcan Sinatras. “Weightlifting” is the Title Track from an Album I am just starting to dig into and discover, from The Trashcan Sinatras, and this is my First Listen Favorite that I can’t seem to get enough of. Song 3 is one of my Favorites from Supertramp. This past weekend I heard some Live Supertramp off of an 8-Track Tape and was reminded of Songs I’ve loved of theirs since I was a child. Aimee Mann’s Opening Song from her Debut Solo Album Whatever is up next, and then its Bic Runga’s Melancholic Ode to Mondays that ties it all together for the day.

Settle in and get comfortable, and let the Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day flow all around. And don’t worry, if you miss a day you can always catch up through the links above. Each days Songs are Added to the Spotify and YouTube Playlists (see the links above) for the Week, for your Listening, and Music Obsessing Pleasure.

Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day:

1. “Sinner” :: Neil Finn

Conscience plays upon me now,
safe until my luck runs out.
Cukoos call,
pendulum swings,
I thought you knew everything.”

I Love the Sound of this Song, how it starts out with this almost Classic, Big Band Sound and is layered over next with a late 90’s Trip-Hop Sound, all before Neil starts Singing. I need to re-explore this Album more. I’d forgotten how much I Enjoy it.

2. “Weightlifting” :: Trashcan Sinatras

“I just want to hear all the past times,
the rushed hours,
the endless lives.

This is an Album I am discovering and digging in deep to. This Song stuck out to me immediately, and it seems so fitting for a Monday. The Chorus itself, Singing about feeling weight lifted, and having your mind eased, is the Perfect sentiment for the start of a new week.

3. “Give a Little Bit” :: Supertramp

Give a little bit,
give a little bit of your love to me
Give a little bit.
I’ll give a little bit of my love to you.”

One of the best parts of the 8-Track Obsession that my boyfriend and I have been in is the discovery and re-discovery of Music. Some Tapes we Play have Songs on them we remember from our childhood, some are Songs that we missed along the way. It is an Amazing Music Adventure, and reminds us both of just how much we Love Music. I woke with this Song in my head, probably due to one of the 8-Tracks we were playing over the weekend, a Live in Paris Supertramp Tape.

4. “I Should’ve Known” :: Aimee Mann

And I don’t know what else to say,
but I think you get it.”

A lyriquediscorde Favorite, Aimee Mann has so many Songs and Albums that I Love. This Track 1 from her Debut Solo Album belongs on any and all Break-Up and Get Back Up Playlists. There is both regret and renewed strength in the Lyrics and in the way the Song itself Feels. I know there have been times I’ve Turned It Up way past Loud and Sang-a-Long, while knee deep in that Break-Up and Get Back Up phase.

5. “She Left on a Monday” :: Bic Runga

“She left on a Monday.
She’s a siren down the road,
in your herringbone overcoat
that you don’t expect to get back.”

Such a Beautiful Song. I Love the Lyrics, the way they Paint the Scene and Story. I can see her, in that overcoat, leaving town. Can’t you?
