Top 10 New Releases:

1. Humanz (Deluxe) :: Gorillaz

Gorillaz Humanz, Top 5 New Releases, New Release Friday

Three-Sentence Review: When I first sampled the 3 pre-Album released Singles I was a bit on the fence about what I heard, as it didn’t Feel like Gorillaz I knew and Loved. But, now that I’m digging in deeper, listening from Start-to-End, and delving in further with the “Deluxe” version, I can’t help but conclude that I love this Album, too. My Best description is to say this is a giant Mix Tape of Sound and Style that all just work together.

Initial Favorite Track(s): “Strobelite” (featuring Peven Everett), “Charger” (featuring Grace Jones), “Andromeda” (featuring D.R.A.M.), and “Ticker Tape” (featuring Carly Simon & Kali Uchris)

Rating (1-5 Stars): 5+

“Andromeda” (featuring D.R.A.M.)

2. Pleasure :: Feist

Feist Pleasure, Top 5 New Releases, New Release Friday

Three-Sentence Review: I was such a Huge Fan of Feist’s 1st and 2nd Albums, Let It Die and The Reminder, and had not heard anything from Leslie Feist since that grabbed me in the way those Albums had. And, then came Pleasure, and I have unexpectedly fallen so hard for the Album that it has bypassed those 1st and 2nd Albums, and then some. This Album is Raw, Real, Raucous at times, Rocking at times, Soft and Melancholic and Delicate at other times, and all-around just Fantastic – easily One of my Favorite Albums of the Year.

Initial Favorite Track(s): “Pleasure”, “I Wish I Didn’t Miss You”, “Lost Dreams”, and “Century” (featuring Jarvis Cocker)

Rating (1-5 Stars): 5+

“Pleasure”

3. Volume 1 :: BNQT

BNQT Volume 1, New Release Friday, Top 5 New Releases

Three-Sentence Review: Super Group featuring Midlake’s Eric Pulido, Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Travis’ Fran Healy, and Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, uh, yes, yes please. This is the Album I didn’t know I wanted, and now I need it, and it is the perfect counter-point and/or Musical-companion to collaborative-heavy Gorillaz. I Love the Seventies-meets-Indie feel to all of the Songs, Songs I am going to be Loving for quite some time to come.

Initial Favorite Track(s): “Restart”, “100 Million Miles”, “Real Love”, and “L.A. On My Mind”

Rating (1-5 Stars): 5

“L.A. On My Mind”

4. Gargoyle :: Mark Lanegan Band

Mark Lanegan Gargoyle, New Release Friday, Top New Releases

Three-Sentence Review: A new Mark Langan Album this week as well as all the others above, wow, what a week for New Album Releases. These Songs are Deliciously Dark and Lyrically Haunting, and all-around Inspiring – I want to write to this collection of Songs. Cinematic, Retro, and Rough around the edges, this is the Album for a drive to the desert kind of running away (or a film about a drive to the desert to run away) if I ever heard one.

Initial Favorite Track(s): “Death’s Head Tattoo”, “Beehive”, “Goodbye to Beauty”, and “Drunk on Destruction”

Rating (1-5 Stars): 5+

“Beehive”

5. Still Life :: Little Cub

Little Cub Still Life, New Release Friday, Top New Releases

Three-Sentence Review: Little Cub is a new discovery of mine, not just a new Album to review, and Still Life is not just a new Album of Little Cub’s, but their Debut Album. Each Track feels so Unique and Individual that this almost plays like a “Best Of” collection, which has its own pluses and minuses (though really, more on the plus side) in that summation. Dominic Gore’s vocals are what got me first, reminiscent of so many 80’s New Wave bands I Love (think New Order, OMD, Talk Talk, etc.)

Initial Favorite Track(s): “Too Much Love”, “Mulberry”, “Death of a Football Manager”, and “Loveless”

Rating (1-5 Stars): 4

“Loveless”
