Another Bonus Saturday Top 5 Music Obsessions is here to bring you the Best Songs for your Saturday. This Mix of 5 are a bit on the Mellow side, something for the slower pace of the Weekend, all Songs you can Sing-a-Long to. Do you have any Favorite Saturday Songs? What are you listening to today?
Bonus Saturday Top 5 Music Obsessions begins with a Velvet Underground Cover Song I’d never heard before until this week, from Big Star. Next up is my Favorite Lloyd Cole & The Commotions Song, “Rattlesnakes”, which I have featured here at lyriquediscorde a few times. The Church’s “Metropolis” is one of those Songs that has graced the Top 5 Music Obsessions a few times, but I can’t help it, the Track keeps sneaking into my Audio-consciousness, making me want to hear it again, and again. Rilo Kiley (pictured above) brings in Song 4 with a very Throwback sounding Torch Song/Love Song with “I Never”. I hear it in my head in a Playlist followed by The Association’s “Never My Love”, or maybe Pete Yorn’s Cover of it. Tori Amos’ “A Sorta Fairytale” ties up Top 5 with the Quintessential Southern California Road Trip Song.
Click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify or YouTube link to listen to the Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to both playlists each day, so they expand as the Month unfolds. Each Month will have its own ever-expanding Playlist, so if you missed a day, or a past week, its all there for your audio perusal.
TOP 5 MUSIC OBSESSIONS OF THE DAY:
1. “Femme Fatale” (Demo) :: Big Star
“Here she comes,
you better watch your step.
She’s going to break your heart in two.
It’s true.”
A new discovery Cover of one of my Favorite Velvet Underground Songs. I Love stumbling on Covers, especially when it is one Favorite Band Covering another Favorite Band of mine. That’s a kind of Cover Perfection.
2. “Rattlesnakes” :: Lloyd Cole & The Commotions
“She looks like Eve Marie Saint,
in “On the Waterfront”.
She reads Simone de Beauvoir,
in her American circumstance.”
Oh My Stars I Love this Song. Lyrically and Melodically it is just Perfect.
3. “Metropolis” :: The Church
“There’ll never be another quite like you.
I’m so involved with everything you do.”
One of my Favorite Love Songs this year. I just can’t seem to get enough of it.
4. “I Never” :: Rilo Kiley
“So, baby be good to me.
I got nothing to give you,
you see,
except everything, everything, everything, everything.“
I remember seeing Rilo Kiley in Santa Monica and hearing Jenny Lewis’ Sing this live. It blew me away. The Song has such a Classic feel to it, like something I can picture Girl Groups from the Sixties Singing, or maybe even Ella Fitzgerald, or Eartha Kitt, with a slightly different arrangement. Can’t you hear it, too?
5. “A Sorta Fairytale” :: Tori Amos
“On my way up North,
up on The Ventura,
pulled back the hood,
and I was talking to you.“
This reminds me of the drive to Santa Barbara I took this week with my wonderful boyfriend. It makes me want to be back on the road again…today.
